Hi there,

I am wanting to enter a painting competition, i am going to use an assault squad, but i want to have them flying dynamically, has anyone ever done this before? and how/would i create flames from the jet pack?

any pictures of guides would be awesome im kinda stuck on how im gonna do this.

I've seen people use steel wool, but it probably wouldn't look great for Space Marines, but for something like Orks it looks good, as it looks like black smoke.

GW in their articles used to use it a lot for explosions and things, I haven't seen it used so much recently though. You slop blue/red/orange/yellow paint onto the steel wool where you want the "fire" to be and then where the "smoke" is, you just leave it.

I made this guy. I debated the pose for ages, you can do similar ones and especially if you make them fly past obstacles (lightpost, vertical steel girder, busted up wall, etc) you can have them attached to the base without having the smokecloud starting at the base.

Alternatively, if you're comfortable with steel wires, you could wire them and then use one of the "cinematic effect" exhausts.
