Have one of the circular tubs of Citadel sand from a couple of years ago.
Curious as to whether this is the same and just repackages, as I don't want to base half of my army with one type of sand and the rest with another.

It's sand... how different can it be?
The picture looks like it contains the same kind of mix of grain diameters, so I wouldn't worry too much. Or just head to the beach and re-fill your existing pot

Find a sandy beach & grab a couple of pounds - it should see you through a number of armies.
Plus it's a tad cheeper than the GW stuff.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Upstate NY = not many beaches around.
And I ask because I've found the grain of this sand to be just right for approximating the crushed obsidian that I'm basing my Necrons with.
Yeah, they look about the same. Should be fine.

beaten to the punch...
If you are gluing the sand on without painting it to give it color, I believe you are making a grave mistake. The paint acts as a bit of a glue/sealant, adding durability to the basing material.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |

Oh, I'm paintIng it. It's more a matter of the texture. I've already done a couple of squads of Necrons, didn't want to start basin the others and find they're on coarser or smoother ground or something.
