Neophyte undergoing Ritual of Detestation

Hey Dakka, ive been getting into fantasy a lot lately and one of the things ive seen is the many variations of weapons, but theres one thing with them that confuses me...
if you take a halberd, or any 2h for the matter, on a stormvermin (i play skaven in case you hadn't guessed ) could you also take the shield? if you can, since the weapons 2H, does that mean youd get the 4+ armor save from heavy armor + shield but not the parry save since your using a 2h? how does that work?

The shield hangs on the forearm with leather strings of somesort liek when you hold heavy spears you walk with 2hands on it and shield just comes without holding it with fingers. And with halberdiers beign bit lighter than great weapons you "can" overhead swing with one hand or poke with 2 hands depending on situation

You'd get the 4+ save from shooting or ranged attacks, but once in melee, you'd be down to just 5, as with 2-handed weapons, you'd put the shield away. Necessarily, you lose the parry as well.

So there wouldn't be any rollover bonus to your save from the shield once you were in combat?

No, because you cannot use a 1 handed shield alongside a 2 handed weapon.
4+ save from shooting, 5+ save in close combat

Also, note that spears are NOT 2 hand weapons. So you would still get the +1 armor, but not the 6+ parry save.

Fantesy has well defined weapon types in the main rule book and their interactions are very clear.
You can carry as much stuff as you are legally allowed to own.
You can only use 2 hands of equipment that uses hands.
If you have a Special Weapon(not a hand weapon) you must use it. If you have 2 you may choose between them.
Shields take one hand to use. So you can't use it in combat if you have a 2 handed weapon. But outside of combat you gain the benifit(because you are assumed to have stored the 2 handed weapon/it doesn't take 2 hands to carry)
