I have a family member rather heavily involved in this. I have my own opinion on the subject, but i am curious if any dakkites have any experience with landmark.

Depends on the nature of the landmark and the class being taught. Clarify landmark for us please...as in a Historic Landmark

I'm going to guess it is some kind of educational program in Australia.

Having just looked it up it is somekind of personal development program, though some people are claiming it is a cult...

After reading the wiki article and poking around a bit more... yeah, it is seriously creepy.

I don't know if I'd call it a cult, but it's pretty close to one. Being founded by a child-rapist isn't a point in it's favor either.

If they're talking about self-fulfilling prophecies, true.

If you transform, then you are doing so with respect to the past. Rhetorical manipulation.

Course participants are encouraged to call people they know during the course who they are incomplete with and either forgive the other person or apologize for their own behavior.

Not terrible advice.

The Tuesday evening involves a presentation at which course attendees bring other people to learn about and voluntarily register for an upcoming Landmark Forum.

"We want more money."

The last part is the most important. Like all good business deceptions, the foundation is solid, but the rest is just designed to make you want to pay them.

I had several friends involved with this.

One of them said something to my wife many years ago that she had not forgiven him for (I don't know the details, but she does bear grudges). It was like he couldn't move "forward" without redressing the imbalance and her forgiveness. He apologised to her (eventually) but although she accepted his apology, he is STILL waiting for the forgiveness part (God forgives, she doesn't. The best he can hope for is her forgetting.). I love my wife, but even I'm not stupid enough to piss her off.

They tried to convince the wife and I to join them at a meeting. We had other plans at the time that I'm quite glad about.
