I.E. converting 40K rules into Infinity rules? Alot of people probably don't want to spring for new models (Despite how awesome they are), and with the Infinity Rules being free..... Could generate interest in the game if we picked a handful of units from each Codex and Infinitied them....
For example:
Space Marine:
MI
Move: 4-4
CC: 14
BS: 14
Ph: 13
WiP: 14
Arm: 3
BTS: -3
W: 1
AVA: Total
Regular, Not Impetuos, Cube (?), Veteren, Religious Troop
With a Boltgun being a Multi-Rifle.
I figure Tyranids, Nurgle, and stuff like that could deal mostly Bio-Damage, so the Space Marines get equal protection against both.

To be honest, based off novel examples if you tried to represent a Marine in Infinity it'd be practically immune to all but the heaviest weapons :/
And Boltguns would be on par with Autocannons

Bah, everyone knows those are just imperial propoganda, anyway
Not sure how we could do the Guard, though, ARO would suck with them...

I think trying to make 40k units into Infinity units is a bit of an uphill battle. It would be a lot of work and there would probably end up being a lot of balance issues. Seems like it would be far simpler to just let people proxy Infinity units with 40k models.
If they really start to like the game they'll then buy the Infinity models themselves.
I got into Infinity because of the models and that has been the case with a lot of other people I know.

I don't think trying to mix the two universes would really work out all that well. Just take the Imperium's stance on AI's and how they would react to Aleph being in charge. I'd prefer to keep them seperate. I really want as little to do with GW as I can anymore.

No-one is suggesting a universe mash-up. He's hoping to introduce people to the infinity rules set using models they already own.
Personally I don't see it working. Paint up two little starter forces and get a table with enough terrain to be a viable infinity board and demo the crap out of the game with its own models.

I think that the biggest draw to Infinity, for me anyway, is the beautiful models. After that you get an incredible ruleset. The best way to stir up support for Infinity in your area is to find one other person to jump into it with you, each paint up a starter set and play games at your FLGS. You'll be surprised by how many people come up and ask you about the models, and then follow up with asking about the game.

This kind of idea has been discussed before:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/443880.page
I think that given the wide difference between the bottom and top tier infantry in Infinity, and the small model count of the game, it's better to represent something closer to Fluff Marines than something an average HI could wipe the floor with. If the idea does catch on, someone will do a cross-over and won't be very impressed if a Shang-Ji smears their Space Marine over a 5 metre radius.
As I recall saying in that earlier thread, I intend to do a cross-over battle report at some point. I've got a heap of stuff I'm putting together for 28mm Inquisitor, so I've got a wide range of models from the Imperium as a whole and could do an "Inquisition strike force" with a decent spread of unit types.
But, as has been said, one of the main draws to Infinity is the models, which writing rules to use non-Infinity models does interfere with.

I think things we can explore with Infinity and 40k is how to convert some 40k minis to fit the Infinity world... and vice versa. For example, a lot of sniper models can be turned into Vindicare Assassins, or bladed ones to DCA. And I have been for a long time looking for an excuse to use various 40k vehicles and weapons to convert them for Infinity: altthough for now I find 40k vehicles too pricey to convert, and the weapons are too big.

Yup.
I showed the rulebook to one guy. He jumped in with both feet and went Haqqislam. He managed to convince his entire local gaming mob (some 16-20 people) to give the game a try - they ALL got at least one starter set. I convinced another local guy to try it out - he is now our local sales agent for Infinity and a very evangelistic convert. ALL of this happened inside 9 months in 2011.
I saw the game at a con about 5-6 years ago and was intrigued by the Cutter model.
About a year later, I saw some blisters and starters in a store and picked one up. About 3 months later had my first game (I'm a slow-grow).
But I managed to convince 4-5 guys in my local club to try it also (they were adverse, at first, but I persevered, and with the help of that first mate, we got them in. 'Course, it helped that the sole " GW is mother, GW is father" gamer who was in the club had left and won't be returning (he went army) as he was their main bulwark defence).

Nice Babylon 5 reference!
I would argue purely from the balanced view of infinity, just proxy with the existing lists. Nearly every list is usable in Infinity because of the time and effort CB has spent balancing. By introducing new rules/models/point costs/etc you're messing with the balance and thus not giving Infinity it's full credit as a game system.

I think the easiest thing to do is just swap figures. No changing of the rules or anything.
Knight/Invicible/=Space Marine
Fusiler/Zanshi/etc=IG
Ninja/Sniper/etc=Assassin
Because I wanted to use my Eldar I'm using PanO rules for them.
Remote=Hover Platform
Guardian=Fulsier
Hacker=Hover spotter
Striking Scorpion=Knight
etc.
Changing rules is not easy and not really the way to go. 40k figures can still be used. It might be hard to find things like a IG with HMG or something but it's not impossible.

I joined infinity because of the support it had on dakka, i think the gain more support we have to build up support on this site, by doing things like posting new minis in gallerys. all members that play to put up army profiles and things like that

As an interesting aside, has anyone noticed the quite odd gallery voting that seems to go on with regards to different types of minis/producers? My 40k stuff gets much higher rate votes (both paintjob and coolness), despite it being years old and being very basically batch painted! Conversely, I've put hours of work into each Infinity mini, and have really tried to improve my technique, yet they get a crappy score..
Using proxies has been a common idea for the game. Although I agree the minis are beautiful, for me one of the main strengths is in the ruleset, and I think why CB have been so keen to promote the use of proxies. To put it mildly, I think Infinity has some of the best mechanics of any game I have ever played. Moving from another certain sci-fi game it's no exaggeration to say that it felt like moving from a 8-bit NES to a Playstation (or some such like! ) Having played many, many different games over the years, you can really tell the game makers have tried to take some of the best elements of many, and add their own.

I think a few might down-vote intentionally but most do not. They will always high-vote those they are comfortable with. The unknown is a bit harder to judge.

Noticed that too. My hypothesis is that people vote more generously when they see their favorite units. Most people search the gallery for references for their 40k minis, and they will tend to vote higher for the stuff they both like and looking for.
Notice that Space Marine miniatures will have a higher possibility of having higher scores than other races.
Speaking of the rules, I find them really nice and tight for competitive play. Having rules that can be used fairly and competitively does not mean that it's less fun for more casual games: it just gives people more time to play and less time figuring out/interpreting/debating the rules.

I think we should promote painted infinity minis, like run competitions and stuff, also well updated P&M blogs on the front page would help. and the infinity signatures seem to be working well, i see them everywhere Automatically Appended Next Post: i remember the last painting competition, it was all over the website. maybe if we could do a community run one, which promote scenery and minis.
like when GW do the armys on parade thing at games day, lets say you could have your army and a building/scenery or something behind them.
I think CB and Infinity as a whole is the best gameing system ive ver played, but not enough people play it. so what we need it really campaign with
what we can. we should set up a small gallery link page where other infinity players can judge your models. that way we can get some onto the front page
