Well after the new rules hit and I heard about fortifications I was a bit indifferent at first. Daemonettes, their claws, they do not operate mounted Heavy Bolters too well. However flicking through I noticed the Skyshield as I'm sure a fair few others have. Then got thinking about how I could actually go about something like that. The modelling aspect of it hitting me a while before the gaming aspect; I could make a more portable version of my display board and even get to use it from time to time. It's about 10-10.5" across, which means it is a touch smaller than the skyshield, but that creates more of a disadvantage. A fair trade off for being ground level I suppose, but I wasn't thinking in that regard when I started it.

I tried to go with a dark polished slate look for the majority of it (stippling grey, black ink applied in a spiral pattern, wiped with sponge and then finally gloss varnish in the same pattern lifting the ink somewhat), though in some places it is more like granite.

Surprisingly is not as crowded as you'd think in the end. This being a full squad of 15 Daemonettes.

With enough room to throw in a second unit.

It only starts to look crowded once I spread them out a bit more and throw in a Keeper of Secrets.

Nicely themed terrain - I like the colouring you've used for the markings. Do you have any way to differentiate 'up' from 'down'?

Not at the moment. Guess I have to make up a counter for it or something.

Oh this is great this is. Those pink demonic runes are brilliantly done and the light grey to dark grey swirls around the runes is just right.

All in all very well executed.

This looks fantastic! Really nice work. If I could make a suggestion for differentiating between furled and shielded, it might be an idea (and a wonderful conversion opportunity if you're into that sort of thing) to have 2 different swappable obelisks or statues of some sort which you could place somewhere on the pad, painted in different colours so you and your opponent can tell the difference on a glance. Just a thought.

It's really nice though, very inspiring.

I can't wait to see more themed fortifications... Seems perfectly legit to me.

I know when I finish some of my painting backlog I need an ork aegis

Thats a really nice chaos landing pad it really looks like a summoning portal. I really like the way you've done the runes they stand out nicely.

Beautiful. I especially like how fluffy it is.

Creative design. Well executed. Nicely done.

Very cool. I love how the runes are twisted, as though they're following warp eddies.

Awesome. I love the idea of a daemonic skyshield and all the modelling opportunities it presents. Yours came out really well, the pink glyphs and the emerging daemonettes look spot on.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I like the obelisk idea. Was messing around with some small ones made of sprue before. I guess I could go either that or those rocks that come with Dryads. Sort of have it as they just rise up out of it in order to provide protection.
