Hopefully simple question, can you make a competitive army using Grotesques? By competitive, I don't mean WAAC but a solid list you can take to a tournament and not be embarassed.
On a related topic, any good conversions of them?

HQ:
Malys
Haemonculus with Venom Blade, Liquifier
Haemonculus with Venom Blade, Shattershard
Baron
TROOPS:
5 man wyche squad with haywires mounted in dual cannon Venom
5 man wyche squad with haywires mounted in dual cannon Venom
5 man wyche squad with haywires mounted in dual cannon Venom
5 man wyche squad with haywires mounted in dual cannon Venom
ELITES:
10 man Grotesque squad with Aberration and Liquifier
3 man Trueborn with 2 DLs
3 man Trueborn with 2 DLs
HEAVY
Talos with Chainflails and TL heatlance
Talos with Chainflails and TL heatlance
Ravager with FF X3 DLs
Ravager with FF X3 DLs
Ravager with FF X3 DLs
Total: 1997pts
Uses 2 FoC to get the extra firepower, etc from the heavy slots.
Having the Grotes be immune to psychic BS is good, 3 tokens right away is good, Malys being able to reposition units is good, Baron +1 to go first and giving the grotes grenades, stealth, and HnR is hilarious. Tarpitting this unit is impossible...HnR makes the unit fast at times (3D6 move when you use it). The unit has 5 characters to deal with challenges, and 3 flame weapons that wall of death chargers + defensive grenades. I've used this list with great results.

Illegal list. You can only get the extra FOC slots by having 2000pts or more.

you can!
How many of them do you want to run?
In a foot list you can have units of 10 with a talos or 2. Wracks singergize well as a screen.
If you just want to plug them into another list, take 4 in a raider and put a haemi with them to babysit.
I usually run 4 grots, liquifier, abbrevation, venom blade in a raider + haemi with venomblade/power ax. ~280 points
Grots take up elite choices, which trueborn use to take. With FD availible and hopefully less vehicles you can easily add in a grot squad or two. With wyches being so bad in assault you might have to.
my grot conversions. easy work, probably about $5 each with all the bits and the rat ogers. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/436789.page

The 1997 points comes from using a 2000 point frame and coming up 3 points short in your expenditure. The list is legal, pay attention.

I was thinking of the 4 Grots in a raider but instead of the haemi, what about a Succubus with agoniser?

Actually, no. You can have two FoC as long as you're playing a game with an agreed upon points limit of 2000 or more. That doesn't mean you have to use all 2000 points.
edit: Bugger; beaten to the punch.

sure that can work. if you have the HQ slots to burn then by all means take whatever. I might consider taking lelith or duke for something to punch through 2+ armor.
that said having the extra pain token is nice, to get you up to FC and fearless.

^^This, and if you are bring one of the more independent beat sticks (Lelith/Draz/whoever) I would recommend keeping a Haemie in the group as well. That way you are free to Fleet away with your beat stick and assault a second target when applicable (take one of them PT's with you of course).

The idea in another thread was to let a unit of Grotesques outflank with a Haemi and Karandras. This is a pretty tough unit that could survive one round of incoming fire and then wreck havoc. Each heavy weapon against the Grotesques is one less weapon against your scoring units.

Just remember, if taking Drazhar he can only join incubi. So no putting him in a group of grotesques and watching him lol through whatever that unit hits.
