Hey Guys I'm new to Dakka Dakka but from the articles I've read you guys give sound advice so I though I'd run one of my lists by you! I'm still quite a novice player with only 15 or so games under my belt and only one of them has been with my guard.
Command Squad: 2x sniper, vox-caster, OotF, Astropath, camo-cloaks (145)
(5) Stormtroopers: 2x melta (105)
(5) Stormtroopers: 2x melta (105)
Guardsman Marbo (65)
(10) Veteran squad: 3x sniper, forward sentries, vox (135)
(10) Veteran squad: 3x sniper, forward sentries, vox (135)
(10) Veteran squad: 3x flamer, harker, shotguns (135)
(10) Veteran squad: 3x melta, shotguns (100)
(10) Veteran squad: 3x metla, shotguns (100)
(2) Armoured Sentinals: plasma cannons (150)
(2) Valkryies: rocketpods (260)
Total: 1435
So my thinking with this list is to have the sniper veterans and command squad sit back on some objectives whilst harkers vets infiltrate and hopefully try to break any light infantry mods which may be running around. The stormtroops and marbo are pretty self explanitry just deepstrike them in and let them melt a tank or two, while the valk vets pop transports and and let the valks tear up whats inside. The sentinals are there because they come with the battalion and they should scare any termies away.
I've left room for some possible additions, I really would like this to be a flying orintated army, so does anyone know if/when forgeworld flyers will avaliable to use in normal games because I would love a vulture or two and if fighters become heavys then one or two of them too. But if they arn't, how do more valks and vendetta vets measure up to leman russes points wise and in effectivness?
So what do you guys think?

Hmm, others may come along and answer this in a lot more detail...welcome to Dakka by the way mate, but, first up. I'd make a few changes personally.
First up, storm troopers rock, but they are overpriced for what they do compared to veterans so I'd ditch them unless you have a very specific task in mind.
If you want snipers pull all of them out of your squads and put them into a dedicated sniper unit or two with ratlings. Sure, the models suck, but they work well for the points. I put a psyker with them to give them sweet leadership and a bit more bite.
The rest I don't mind too much, although if your playing againts marines then ditch the flamers etc and get plasma all round.
Also, most people don't bother with voxes, although I use them with normal infantry squads but then, I mainly use chimera's instead of valks.
Good luck mate!

Yeah, I see what you mean about dropping the snipers from the squads, I'll defiantly be doing that. But the stormtroopers are more for harassment purposes and for fluff aswell (para-troopers). So what I'll probably do is make one of the sniper squads into a plasma squad maybe mounted in a chimera and keep the other as it is but maybe with a missile launch to make it more flexible.

Grab 3 Leman Russ Battle Tanks. Just the basic ones are great or you can pay a bit more and toss some Lascannons on them. Also it would be good to grab a few heavy weapons to help hold some ground or even take out some bigger targets. I know Chimeras are more or less cardboard boxes that fling your troops to the middle of the field but I like to have the option and at 55 pts the Chimera is worth it if you fire a few shots out before it goes down.
That's just how I like to play. Really it is up to your play style and what you have success with and enjoy when you play.

One thing that may be worth thinking about is that the only reason to take Shotguns instead of Lasguns is if you are planning on actually assaulting with that unit.
I know you're looking at the range of shotguns and that they match Meltas and fire two shots on the move but now so do Lasguns at 12" and they have the option of firing out to 24" if you need them to.
Just a thought.

Shotguns are whack now; you shouldn't be assaulting anyways. The 1 shot at 24" is what you want with lasguns. Also, in order for vox to be useful, it needs to be in both the ordering, and the ordered squad. So either nix it or add them in the squads you'll be ordering (hint: nix it unless youre giving orders to blob squads.)

Yeah my bad, I hadn't taken into account that rapid fire rules had changed when I wrote that list... I love me some tanks don't get me wrong but for fluff reasons it would pain me to include them as I sort of want this to be a flyer orientated army, any word on forgeworld flyers being included?

Necrons are a power list now, and they can glance to death AV 14 with ease. Vehicles are not as good now as they were in 5th where they were overpowered. Rapid Fire didn't change a whole lot.
Your Stormtroopers and Marbro are still fine as suicide troops, but 6th Ed is a shooting game now, with challenges and snap fire making assaulting a dangerous business.
Toss a LC and 2 plasma guns in your CC. Terminators are /alot/ better and more accessible now. Plasma will be king and cover saves for IG is still better than it's armor saves, so Sentries and Camo Cloaks is still huge.... your just not going to get the good cover saves like in 5th ed.
The sentinals at BS 3 on a scatterable template weapon is not something that scares a player and it certainly is not something to depend on. A single vet squad with Sentries and 3 plasma guns and a LC will kill more Terminators than that Sentinal and will be harder to kill.

Adding an auto cannon to the sniper vets would help you kill light armor. Keeping the snipers there isnt a bad idea but ratlings are worth more for their points. If you are having them hide and using the command squad to order them having a heavy weapon is a great idea. Also guard tanks are awesome still since we can have lots for little. Necrons have a hard time shooting anything more then 2 feet away. Use a basic leman russ and watch the other guy cry. Marbo is better at killing squads then tanks normally but a demo charge up the tail pipe has still kill lots of stuff for me. Automatically Appended Next Post: If you want it to still be all airborne paint the tanks up like they are from another unit and they are the guys you are coming in and saving.

Do any of you guys remember that bit from the tomb raider films when she gets air dropped into the jungle in that jeep? Well It would be cool if it looked as though my tanks were rolling off some of those parachute platforms... and yeah I'm definitely going to invest in some plasma troops, I'll post an updated list soon.
