You don't need 20 knights but its a good start. You need warriors knights and characters to make a viable army. Common builds seem to be two blocks of warriors, one unit of knights (with a character), a level 4 on foot out disc, a level 2 on foot in one warrior block, a unit of chosen, and a hell canon. You could get away with 2 boxes, a hell canon, and sprinkle in the characters you like.

Or you can double warshrine knights to a 3+ wardsave...

I made a fairly strong WoC army from 2 battalions and some extra warriors + bits and imagination.

Looked something like (remember I play mono slannesh):

-Sorcerer Lord on Steed
- BSB on foot
- sorcerer on foot
- 40 Marauders w/ great weapons
- 27 Warriors w/ halberds
- 20 Chosen
- 5 knights
- warshrine

Tamper with magic items/numbers in units and this is my template for 2000 or 2500pts.

I personally would not want any more battalions because having any more dogs would just be annoying and all that I find I need more of are warrior blocks.

Personally i would say 2 battalions maybe sine more warriors or mara?uders depending on what you like.
i like disc riders they are quite strong. maybe a hellcannon or two or shrines or monsters would be good. don't forget a Bsb.

well from 4 battalions...

my rough list is (i dont have the book with me)

1 u.it of 40 khorne warriors.

2 units of 40 khorne marauders
2 units of 10 khorne knights...
a chaos lord and a bsb champion

thats about 1600 without magic items.

so flavour uo on them with magic items and either add the digs ir a hellcannon would be 2k right?

would that be any good?

I never use Hellcannons myself, I prefer to bring Dragon Ogers or trolls. I also normaly run two lvl 2 wizzards, a SBS and a chaos lord. But it may varie from person to person

id usually run a wizard but if i was taking khorne... sticking to theme id have no magic...

but perhaps a shadow sorcerer would be helpfull...

You can make your sorcerer markless if you want it to fit in with your list. That's what I was thinking of doing on one of my builds. But its mostly experimental. My lists usually run total Khorne with no magic. Then again those are experimental too because I haven't played a single game of 8th yet.

A sorcerer helps you not get destroyed in the magic phase.

i run hellcannons because i like the model.

20 knights is in my opinion way more than are needed they are also very costly in points.

i would say 2 battalions and the rest do with other packs.
because with 2 battalions you will have 10 knights,40 marauders, 20 or so hounds, and 24 warriors.

so i mean you don't really need more knights or hounds. you have a pretty big marauders unit as well as a big warrior unit which can be split up into a full unit and a bit of a second unit.
So you can fill in the rest without getting models that will never get use.

I agree with cowpow. Use the money to get some rare items.
