Had a game against a friend yesterday, in which I put my Stormtalon into Hover Strike mode (Note this is, not Hover as per the rulebook, its is a special rule for ST).
But, my opponent argued that I couldn't do that as the ST is not a Hover Flyer. He also said that even if I did, the Stormtalon has not moved 18"+ it wrecks.
We rolled off and I won and so got the ok, but this is.sort of confirmation that I was right.
In the Hover Strike rules, it says the unit's type now becomes "Skimmer". This means it would no longer have to zoom, therefore removing the need to move 18"+. Is this correct or am I wrong?
Also, on a related note, what happens if a Stormtalon with Hover Strike active was immobilised? It is not a Flyer at that point so I see 2 options
1- Because it is not a Flyer, it becomes simply immobilised. Nothing Further
2- It reverts to a Flyer at the start of your turn, and cannot move 18" as it has locked velocity at stationary and becomes destroyed, unless you keep using Hover Strike to make it a Skimmer.

You are correct, it changes its profile to skimmer and dosent have to worry about the zoom restrictions.
As far as Im aware the stormtalon remains in hover strike mode untill you move it again, but I may be wrong on this.

You were correct about the Hover strike.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I don't understand your opponent's confusion here, it specifically says that when a codex rule contradicts a rule in the BRB use the codex rule instead, unless specified otherwise in a FAQ & Hover Strike is very clearly a specific rule for the stormtalon. Did you show him the rules pages for the 'talon? I agree that hover strike is a mode, just like hover, so it has to be "deactivated" if you will, thus immobilized is immobilized, just like a skimmer.

Fast Skimmer to be exact. "For all intents and purposes."

Not quite.
"Hover" changes to a Fast Skimmer
"Hover Strike" (Storm Talon only) is just 'Skimmer' and cannot move.

Ah, I even read that he made the distinction, but it didn't register. My bad.
