I am trying to convert some araby/desert raider style historical models to be Tallarn IG units, anyone have any good ideas or know of any model sets that may work out? Or am I stuck with having to greenstuff turbans/cloth on Cadian models.

I had a similar project for my WRFB chaos warrior army years ago. I used Dark Elf dark riders (the mounted scouts) and converted them to a unit of mounted arabian themed marauders. The dark flowing robes look arabesque when painted a dusty brown.

Not really what you are looking for, but might help...

Take a look at Brigade - specifically the sci-fi desert troopers:

They also have Daughters and Sons of the Desert:

And of course the various actual historical sets like WWI Palestine:

They make modern day Afgans and Iraqi miniatures.
Best of luck !

The only poorly painted miniature is the one that is not painted.

I was thinking of doing the same thing as you, and I saw these a while back but didn't get them as I started another project.

As they are historical you will still need to get bases, weapons and all that fun stuff.

I got a freebie sample sprue of the WGF Persian Infantry a while back and the sculpts are solid. Being historical figures, you may find them a tad weedy (with a Phrygian cap and the small boost from the integrated base, they're about as tall as a SM, but much narrower - without arms, the torso at the shoulders is only as wide as the flared bottom of a SM's greaves), but they definitely fit the bill in terms of clothing.

Krieg! What a hole...

Forgeworld has a few Tallarn model, no infantry squad tho, which is a shame http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Tallarn_Desert_Raiders?filter_reset=1

I tried to do that myself and if looked bad as the LOTR range is smaller than other GW ranges.

Those look good, have you seen them in real life, or just online?
