Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere but just rereading the codex and heroic sacrifice really jumps out now!
For 100 points you get an HQ that can re-roll failed wounds, allows a unit to re-roll failed hits in the first turn of an assault and can make d3+1 attacks at I10 if in base contact with a MC or IC.
And if he dies you roll on his ld 10, if you pass he gets an attack against any model in base contact when he died, if it hits both models are removed! WS7 so pretty likely to hit.
Due to the new challenges rules does this look like a really good option now? Especially for the 1 required HQ for allies?

I think Coteaz is even more of an awesome buy now. Level 2 psycher with divination is handy, +2 armor protects him from power weapons now, and his MC hammer makes him dangerous to a lot of targets in melee. Even if you don't use his special abilities, he's the best value for an Hq in my opinion.

it only works against a IC, not a character so your average seargent can do a pretty good job against him.
d3+1 isnt that great, the average is 3. Most 100 point HQs get 5.

Umm, does she inflict a negative modifier on to hit rolls?
WS8 won't be hitting anything on 5s naturally. Even WS5 doesn't hit on worse then 4+.

Unfortunately, new challenge rules make him pretty bad choice.
Your opponent can just assign PF sergeant to challenge him / respond to his challenge and then Brotherhood Champion can make grand total 1 attack.
And if the sergeant kills him, Champion can only target the sergeant with Heroic sacrifice.

If a PF sergeant gets sent in then you will just Rapier Strike him. D3 attacks will smash a regular sergeant. And you have a 3+ invuln to fall back on.

Rapier Strike doesn't work on sergeants. It targets IC's or MC's, not characters. If it worked, Champion might have some use left. So you're forced to use Sword Storm, and while in challenge you're only b2b with your opponent so grand total 1 attacks.

Right
Still, that one attack has a 44% chance of gibbing the PF before it swings while it only has a 27% chance to kill the Champion.
Alternativly, you just use Blade Shield to tie the PF up while you kill the rest of the squad and make em run. Or you get down to where you have only your guys left vs the lone PF. Then you have a reroll to allow you to finish the Sergeant off.

Yeah, suppose I was basing it on if you got the charge and got in a position where the only challenge you could issue was against an IC.
I still think that 6th ed. has made it a better choice now than before, but yeah...still not the best choice hah.
