Subject: 2k - Balanced / Competitive NECRONS - very little use of double FOC - UPDATED - Help needed

Infiltrating Broodlord
|
Hi all, here a little NECRONS 2k list that made a very little use of double FOC.
I don't want it to be hugely over-kill but instead I'm looking for a nice all-rounded all comers list that could do pretty well in casual games and still pretend a more than average competitive level in tournament situations.
HQ - Overlord - WS - SW - MSS - PS - CCB. 255 [Warlord]
HQ - Destroyer Lord - SW - MSS. 160 [with Wraiths]
TR - 10x Gauss Immortals - Nightscythe. 270
TR - 10x Warriors - Nightscythe. 230
TR - 10x Warriors - Nightscythe. 230
TR - 5x Warriors - Lancetek with Solar Pulse. 120
FA - 5x Canoptek Wraiths - 3x Whip Coils. 205
HV - Doomscythe. 175
HV - Doomscythe. 175
HV - Annihilation Barge. 90
HV - Annihilation Barge. 90
Tot. 2000
So:
- a very (not aggressively spamming) little use of double FOC to grants some more hull pts hunting.
- a little bit of numbers in troops choices, I'm quitely scared about MSU in this edition. Right now, I had very poor experiences with my Grey Hunters small units.
- just one cryptek, the solar pulse, to manage Nightfighting. Joined the little walking unit that will hide out of TLOS for at least the first 2 turns. Really just to have Nightfight the first turn in case it doesn't start by the roll and eventually extend it to the second turn.
- 2 counter-attack / hunting C/C units, the Surflord and the DLord + Wraiths. I'm sure I'm gonna suffer Deathstars but I don't think I will see a huge investment on them in my local area. Not more than before in anycase so yes, some TH/SS units or similar here and there.
- a pretty nice amount of TL-testa bullets to manage hordes armies, some mounted on flyers for Air-to-Air fightings too.
What do you think?
I'm quitely worried about Chaos Teminators spams with Fateweaver (even if I'll wait the new CSM codex to really get scared), Nob bikers revamp, Dark Eldars+Eldars freaking combos
For others situations I think I could still play my games.

I'd drop Wraiths for 5 RoC Triarch Paetorians: S5 AP2 assault shooting followed by two Power Axe + HoW attacks in CC. Much more likely to get rid of TH/SS Nators, albeit not striking before, so will take casualties. However they can come back to life assuming they're not all dead.
I'd drop a couple of Warriors somewhere to get points for a RO on the DLord if you choose to do what I mentioned above

I'd disagree here. Wraiths are cheaper and much more survivable. With Necrons you are never going to get a massive beatstick close-combat unit, it's not going to happen, they're not built for it. What you're going to want to do is stop big nasty close combat units from hitting your lines. This is something that Wraiths, with their 3++ and 2 wounds at only 35pts a piece, excel at. Granted the 2 wounds won't help that much against THSS but they still get a 3+ invuln. The ability for Triarch Praetorians to cancel out armour saves is nice but the Terminators themselves also get a 3++, meaning that they will be able to take the brunt of the hits and punch straight through your Praetorians, leaving them with nothing standing between them and the rest of your army.
Other than that I'm not sure if your Destroyer Lord comes with a Warscythe base but if he doesn't I'd give him one. I don't have my Codex to hand.

Yes, Dlord has a WS standard.
It's just Wraiths have a 1/6 chance to trigger a 2/3 save instead if a 5/6 save. Against TP, there is only 2/3.
I know Triarchs aren't the best, but I think wraiths are better at flying down one edge & mincing that CCS/Devs that like hiding in corners

What about the troops?
Do you consider 35 models enough? Considering that 30 of them could be considered quitely safe until thay disembark?

I agree with you. It will take a whole lot of shooting to take out a TH/ SS squad, especially if they have chaplains or have sanguinary preists ( BA).. With this kind of list you have mobility which a unit such as a squad of terminators do not have. You can make use of that and your greater number of units to get to the other objectives whilst they just contest one. You can keep your troops away from them and just pick up 3-6VP whilst you feed them a couple units to block their path.
Deathstars are scary yet they aren't very mobile and with your night scythes you should be able to out maneuver them.
You only need to worry about protecting the wraiths from S8 fire, which at the moment is quite prominent. If you can deal with that and hide them until they can tarpit some deathstars then I think you have a very balanced list.

True, but Power Fists, Thunder Hammers and other such weaponary that is going to be on hammer units that you want to tie up aren't going to care about a 2+ armour save. Thanks for the info on the DLord by the way.

That's ok, I help where i can. My only point is on the killing, not the being killed. In that side of the Combat ie your strikes, mathhammer favours the TP over Wraiths.
When it comes to surviving, its pretty level. PF/ TH both ID wraiths, but they have an Invun. Triarchs will crumple under them, but can reanimate on a 5+ assuming one of them survived, 4+ w/ Res Orb Automatically Appended Next Post: Toban wrote:What about the troops?

I usually play with 20 Warriors footslogging and they are fine (until I hit CC)

is there a reason why you gave your overlord in the command barge warlord? I was thinking if you gave your destroyer lord the warlord trait, he might be able to make a better use of it. Whenever I field destroyer lord and wraiths, my destroyer lord is usually the warlord, and when he's given the personal traits, he's usually guaranteed something great.

Good question.
Honestly I was thinking about the Surflord as the natural leader of the list not only because more resilient (and durable..) but also for some fluffy useles reasons.
However, the DLord joining the Wraiths will covers roles that would keep him hidden until the strike moment and so, most of times, closer to my half of the table.
In those scenarios he will eventually benefit from COMMAND and PERSONAL Traits, while the Surflord will take (and give..) more advantages from PERSONAL and STRATEGICAL.
I can't really reply to your question yet.
In a certain way I may consider to decide depending on the adversary and the kind of list.
In certains situations a Furious Charging units of Wraiths, a scoring 2+/3++ Surflord or even re-deploying part of the list could be crucial.
Really a good question. Time for reflections..

take the SW off you CCB overlord, the CCB gives you +1 to your save already. I would also make room for Zandrehk just incase you come up against someone that has drop pods or a deamon player, he lets you Deep strike all your guys on you opponent's turn 1 and your fliers can deep strike.

Excuse me but I must miss something. How can the CCB give a +1 on the armor save? Weave is hugely usefull now a days. the 2+ armor is now the best upgrade available maybe. Besides, soon or later, the Overlord will disembark and I consider his equipement almost untouchable. The change I cosidered and that I can easily accept would be exchange the Immortals for 10 regular Warriors. Freein' 40 pts. I do consider also to drop both Annihilation Barges for a third Doomscythe but as most of players start do to sistematically vs Necrons, enemy target would be easily scattered to avoid Deathrais. One more shooty platform could help.
