So im working on a legion of the damned squad(which, contrary to popular belief can do good in a game if you know where to put them)
Right now i only have one(Plas cannon)
So im wondering how they both come in(im imagining a warp portal on the ground where they crawl up like zombies) and how i can paint something like that.
So i might try a swirling green a purple(how i imagine the warp) vortex under their feet.

A lot of folks do lava bases. I am actually going to use the skeleton/bone bases from Secret Weapon miniatures.

I think this is a pretty good tutorial on how to paint lava bases:

After reading "Legion of the Damned" by Rob Sanders, I've come to the conclusion that the Legion are all ghosts and should be painted accordingly, including the basing. My eventual LoD project will likely include 3rd party sculpted bases that appear to be ghostly or spooky and painted up using the Army of the Dead paint techniques.

I've been toying with how to base mine, I tend to imagine them coming out of some ethereal mist, so I'm going to scorch the ground around their feet and use some cotton wool or other alternative to create a mist around their feet. The main challenge is making it look spooky and not cheesy though.

The only disadvantage of a fiery-looking base is that it reduces the visual effect of the flame-painted armour (presuming you're going for flamey armour).

I'd go for a more contrasting base colour, like green or brown or white.
