Hi,

This is about a tactic I've come up with a few days ago, but I'm not sure if it will work out.

This is the unit I'm talking about (in a 2000+ pt game)

Warrior Prime: 110 pts (Lash Whip, Deathspitter, Toxin Sacs - Regeneration optional)
Warrior Prime: 110 pts (Lash Whip, Deathspitter, Toxin Sacs - Regeneration optional)
4 Warriors: 200 pts (Boneswords, Deathspitters, Toxin Sacs)

Now you position the Primes at the front of the unit, with the warriors clearly not closest to the enemy.
If you have a Tervigon around, give the unit FnP.
Every Melta, Missle, and other S8-S9 wounds are allocated to the Primes (closest), having a change of saving it or taking only one wound.
All small arms shots are allocated to the warriors via Look out Sir!, allocate it to the warrior with the most wounds.

This makes the unit very resiliant against anything but S10 weapons, while damaging Rhinos and smaller vehicles (avr: 2 Glance vs AV11, 2 Glance + 2 Pen vs AV10)
Don't forget that 6 of those shots can be allocated at will when rolling a 6 to hit vs infantry. (precision shots)

In combat you can challenge with one of the Primes, while the other one wrecks havoc amongst the rest of the enemy unit. While the warriors are causing alot of wounds,
with each of those wounds having a high change of causing ID (Very usefull against units with FnP)

Drawbacks:
If you encounter an enemy with a few S10 pie plates you're toast, you can choose to seperate the unit though and let the primes join somewhere else.
The unit is slow, just like any infantry (no Move Through Cover), this is a real drawback, but because the unit is scoring the enemy has to deal with it eventually.
It's expensive!

In conclusion:
- a very resiliant unit, taking alot of high and low strength wounds before dropping a model.
- with the equivellant of 6 Heavy Bolters at BS4, the unit can seriously damage transports and infantry (And even MC) alike.
- A true deathstar in close combat, ignoring armour, rerolling to wound, at WS6, IC's for precisions shots.
- It is a scoring unit

I'd love to hear what you think!

This was a standard play for anyone who wanted to take warriors. The problem, as to why you never saw it, was people would derp around with nid internet lists and spam tyrants, tervigons and the swarmlord instead of any other options.

One of the best ways to use primes and warriors is to have a troop tervigon giving them FNP, this was true in 5th, it's true in 6th.

Screening them with hordes, and having some monstrous creatures as well does wonders. Have a pack of carnifex, or some other suitably nasty MC so their high STR stuff shoots them rather than the warriors and primes.

I have been seriously considering this exact play, but with seven warriors rather than four. I am very interested to see how it plays. I suspect it will be situationally fantastic, and occasionally useless. Kind of like a lot ofdeathstars I guess!

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!

Thanks a lot for the tyranid warrior info. I have been wanting to use them but didn't know what was the standard way to run them. I usually play in the lower point values so I probably wont have the space for all the upgrades.

For an upcoming 750 pt battle I thought about bringing:
Prime w/ Deathspitter, dual boneswords, Regen
5 warriors w/ deathspitters and scything talons.

It leaves enough points for 2 zoanthropes, 2 hive guard, 1 tervigon, and 10 termagants.

I have 5 points left over to switch to a lash whip and bonesword but I really like the improved instant death.

Just my two cents, but with a unit like that, you are going to want to be COMPLETE sure to have EW on them at all times, b/c with two primes in the unit (both your HQs) destroying this unit will mean the opponent kills your warlord, as well as what is almost certainly your hardest-hitting troops unit, and wipes out 400+ points of synapse.
With 6 models, unless you strung em out in a line, or are exceedingly, annoyingly precise about having your models EXACTLY 2 inches apart, 1 S8-10 large blast WILL cause you a lot of pain unless the unit has EW.

None of this is to say that warriors or primes are bad. My usual 5th ed list included a squad loaded out exactly like yours except minus a prime, and outflanked with hive commander. They hit HARD coming in from reserve, and didn't have to slog it all the way across the table like normal, and weren't as fragile as shrikes. On top of that, my 2 units of ymgarl stealers tended to push the enemy away from terrain, which is often placed fairly centrally on the table.

That did end up being a lot more than two cents, but yeah, warriors are a lot better at lower points cost, where most armies don't have anywhere near as many high-S weapons.

We're not evil, we're just hungry.
