Well my brother likes the Imperial Fist, at the same time i prefer the DA battleforce for a starting army for him. It would offer him mobility allowing him to out-manuveur most forces now i dont know if this is smart seeing that as a Dark Eldar player i prefer mobility over anything else. Your opinions would be nice should i invest in a DA battleforce or a normal SM battleforce and move on from their and what units should i help him purchase after a battleforce.

Wherever and whenever they appear they leave only destruction in their wake; they are the Lords of Death, Bringers of War. The Dark Angels.

I would let him play whatever army he wants. IIRC Dark Angels are pretty much the same as normal marines right now so there isn't much difference.

In my opinion, I think it'd probably be a good idea to let him play whichever army he wants because in the end, they are his miniatures.

Well if he likes Imperial Fists, the normal SM battleforce seems the way to go, since they're in the SM codex and all.

Whilst he may like the Imperial Fists a lot, remind him that yellow is quite a difficult colour to paint and he may get frustrated rather easily.

Being a Fists player I can tell you painting yellow can be difficult. It has taken me quite some time to get mine to a level I'm comfortable with. That's not to say that they don't look good on the tabletop though, as yellow is a very striking colour.

Back on topic I would recommend the Standard Space Marine Battleforce.

Might want to help him write up a few low point lists first. Decide which one he likes best and then pick the battleforce that best accomodates that list.

As far as painting is concerned, I find it far easier to find a primer in the color that I want as my base coat. TheArmyPainter.com offers a decent range of basic colors in their spray primer.
