I’ll be back in Winnipeg, this time for a double header. Masterclass I will be offered on November 17-18 and Masterclass II on November 24-25. Both classes will be offered at the Imagine Games and Hobbies store in downtown Winnipeg.

For more information, or registration, contact Neil at masterclasswinnipeg@gmail.com.

Winnipeg is a beautiful city with great museums and galleries to visit. So take this chance to visit the birth place of Winnie the Pooh while painting figurines.

Those of you who enjoyed the Akaranseth Studios Masterclass in 2010 will no doubt be first in line to sign up! Mathieu is an award winning, (including several Golden Demon awards) figure painter from Montreal. He is a highly sought after tutor, who gives workshops around the globe.
These are unique, hands on sessions, not lectures or demonstrations. You get a chance to paint and improve your skills under the guidance of a real expert.
This time Mathieu is offering a double header: Masterclass I will be offered on November 17-18, 2012 and Masterclass II on November 24-25, 2012. Both classes will be offered at the Imagine Games and Hobbies store in downtown Winnipeg.
Imagine Games is conveniently situated in the exchange district, with excellent access to nearby restaurants and cafes, to refurbish the inner artist during a long day of painting!
The workshops include access to all the art supplies needed (you can leave your gear at home). You also will get a free Raphael Kolinsky sable paintbrush, and of course the model to take home (with pride).
Each class is a full weekend – starting early and ending late, taking maximal advantage of the personal tutoring Mathieu offers. Space is limited, so sign up soon! You can attend either workshop, although MCII does build on the basics taught in the first course.

Nov 17/18 - Masterclass I - Painting a fantasy figure in acrylics. Instruction includes flesh tones, cloth, metals, and bone. Mathieu will also discuss the application of colour theory and zenithal lights. The registration fee is $90, including a 33mm “hero scale” figure.

Nov 24/25 - Masterclass II - Advanced weathering and armour techniques (Eldar Hellion - a small spacecraft thingy with a figure). Mathieu will also talk about weathering with oils, pigments and presentation. Should be a good workshop (even for figure painters) . The cost is $110 including a GW Dark Eldar “Helion” and rider.

Ever wanted to get in the medals? For the more dedicated modelers among you:

Wed Nov 21 (6pm) – A special VIP evening class (small group – maximum 6 participants) - In my home (Charleswood area) - More advanced figure techniques. Mathieu has agreed to a small group ("VIP") on Wed, where he will explore some advanced techniques with folks comfortable with the basics. This will include – monster skin tones, colour variation, mounted figures. The cost for the VIP course is $130, including an exceptional, limited edition mounted figurine.

Save your pennies! It’s Masterclass time soon!

Bathing in elitist French expats fumes

Having had the pleasure of painting with Mathieu many, many moons ago, it is an edifying pleasure not to be missed. He's got some serious paint-fu.

Though, given your name, I suspect some bias.

This thread is just full of Canadian lurv.

Yes, I do have a bias. He definitely brings it, much more than I do.

Small pump on this topic to let you know that there are still places available for the Masterclass I and II. The Wednesday evening session is fully booked. As the organizer would say: "There is still place…. US modellers welcome – we are 2 hours from Grand Forks, 8 hours from the Twin Cities. Direct flights from Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver and Las Vegas".

I'll be doing a round of the museums and galleries during the week in between so if you are around you are welcome to join.

Guys, Matt is a friend of mine, and I have had the fortune of having a class with him. If you guys are serious about painting, in the area or can afford to be in the area, get in there.

This guy, really, really, really knows what he is doing, and is an extremely experienced teacher on top of it. I really can't say enough positive things about it and honestly it is not favouritism because I know him, he genuinely earned the comments above and more.

Hints if you are going -

1. Bring Scotch, 12 years.
2. If you know a particularly good and high end restaurant restaurant in town, tell him, and better yet, head over with him! This guy is into interesting restaurants and cooks -
3. Ask him how to freehand. He adores teaching freehand. Tell him 'Tom says hi' when you do it

That's it! Walk in and enjoy, walk out 2 days later a seriously improved painter/airbrusher/weathering artist with a solid grasp of art theory!

Still too far away for an islander to attend. Mind you, there is not even a decent (or indecent) hobby store on little PEI so I am used to the loneliness!
