Assuming the conversion looks good, the count-as are the same size as the models they're meant to be and so on. Would you allow them to play with said models in a tournament?

Yes as long as it isn't giving them an advantage over the stock model (LOS etc)

I've seen enough oversized landraider lootings for counts as battlewagons to make someone sick of conversions. All that kustom force field nonsense.

Provided the conversion doesn't give any advantage and is very close to the size of the actual model, I don't mind conversions

If it's the same foot print and doesn't allow for line-of-sight shenanigans, entry/exit point advantages, and the like, I'm 100% fine with conversions.

If they look cool, then I might even allow some of the above...

I don't really see a problem with it as long as they are the right size. Back before they had a model for Arjac Rockfist for the SW, I just made one using the SW Terminator set with the weapons it said he had. And honestly I still use it all the time because the model they finally made for it IMO sucks.

What about Looted Wagons?

I'm told I can make it out of whatever I want and place its weapons wherever I want.

Since there is no official model I could make a Basilisk with a 40inch cannon that can angled strait up for deployment.

Then after deployment I can drop the cannon down and fire point-blank into the enemy units.

Conversions FTW!

That's not a conversion! THAT FACT! The space marine movie says so.

Unless there's some blatant attempt at cheating, I'd play against conversions and counts-as, even at tournaments.

40k is an expensive, hobby, so counts-as, properly forewarned, are fine by me, and I love seeing other people's conversion work.

I absolutely love conversion, both on and off the table. As long as it's discussed beforehand and everyone's fine with it, I don't even mind breaking the rules.
Custom objectives with rule benefits are my favourite - auto-cannon turrets on top of a bastion, cover saves from a building, unlocking doors in the terrain from a console, etc.

As long as there are no gaming advantages conferred by said model. Whilst I love conversions though, I'm a bit less interested by count-as, especially if the count as is from a different miniature range. I like to know what I'm facing by glancing over the table, and not having to ask my enemy to remind me each time what a count as unit stands for.

Conversions are fantastic and I'm a big fan! Especially if it's plugging holes in the model range (Female Guard any one?) or making up for non-existant models... or kits that are A. kinda ugly or B. pricey enough that you'd rather do something else no matter what.

I'm a big fan of "Counts as" too personally. Even if it's from another model range, primarily in cases where you want or need a lot of the model in question but GW literally has TWO models for them. The DCA and Crusaders for the SoB Battle Conclave come to mind most pertinently. I like all four of those models, but to properly kit out a conclave you need a few more. So for example next time I have some spare cash on my I'm getting Hasselfree Miniature's female Paladin Tiriel, giving her a SM Assault Shield and calling her a Crusader. It's obvious what she is and what she has (Storm shield and PW) and it's a nice fluffy addition for a Sisters army.

Rule of cool conquers all!

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

I love seeing what other creative players can come up with as most of my heavy armour is conversions (practically all of it is Sentinel based). I always get good comments from them as not only do they look good but you can also see what they have (,yes I model with the WYSIWYG format).
Example, my scout sentinels are nothing more that cheap diecast 99p toy cars with some minor alterations but every one loves them (not the best pics I know but you can sort of get the feel for them).

Or my LRBT Pask-in-ator ( I call it The Bow of Artemas

Or my Hydras A-ko and B-ko

I was even told by the FLGS Owner to stop making such cool models as it makes the rest of them look bad

I might steal the jeep idea to make some of the Elysian cars. Too bad their fast attack and take up a Vendettas slot. With that in mind, Whats the company's name and does it have an outlet in the US?

I don't think they where branded stuff, they quite literately cost me 99p each. Try looking down the toy section of you local 99 cent store or walmart (take a fig with you so you can scale the size of it). Then slap on some spare IG eagle from a Chimera kit and a multi-laser from the sentinel kit, paint and bosh, you have a squadron of scout sentinels for like 5 bucks

In both a tournament and casual setting, I would be ok with conversions as long as it doesn't give them any kind of advantage over the stock model in any one aspect. However, if they have a "Stock Placeholder" which can be used to counteract this, I would be fine with the conversion being on the board until a situation arose where checking against the stock model was needed (ie, you convert your DE Archon to be on a huge rock, I'd be fine with it on the board, but for LOS purposes, I'd want you to put a normal DE Archon or similar model in it's place so we can compare against the stock).

For tournaments, I am a bit more strict with "counts as" models then I would be in casual play. In tournaments I would be ok with it as long as A. My criteria for converted models stands. and B. It is clear what each model "counts as", so I would not have be constantly cross-referencing what is what. So if you are playing Guard, and you use a non-stock but properly sized model for your Veterans or Stormtroopers, and all special wargear and weapons are properly noted, I'd be ok with that. If you have 2 identical blobs and say the first are normal guard and the second are Stormtroopers, I'm going to have an issue with that.
