I am wanting to make my own version of vulkan, but I cant find any good two handed swords. the company's champion looks good but it's a left-handed sword and I prefer it on the rightside. any suggestions?

Grey knight halberd?

I would like it more of a sword and not so much of a spear. I was thinking about the emperor's champion sword myself, but i think it might confuse people.

Limited edition y2k emperors champion? It'll look bespoke (it's held in both hands though) plus you'll be picking one up for circa £30 on ebay

yeesh thats a lot o-o but I just had a thought. if my vulkan has a long handled blade in one hand, what is his other hand doing? I was thinking of placeing a hand flamer on it or something, but only wrist mounted. The emp's champion (modern) might be good but I kinda wanted to put an iron helmet on it instead of the flat mask thing.

any other ideas? (besides a lot of grey knight stuff?)

I know you said "besides a lot of grey knight stuff", but I would have thought that one of the grey knight swords would have been perfect. It's a two handed sword, and it wouldn't be too difficult to trim off the storm bolter and put something else on instead.

hmmm.... you know that is crazy enough to work!

Initially I used a grey knight halberd and a chopped down lightning claw I turned into a hand Flamer. I didn't like how the left handed Flamer came out so I changed it. I used a outstretched left arm with a dreadnought heavy Flamer, with a salamander symbol from a drop pod on the outside of the hand. It worked out perfect and the end of the cabling goes right into the shoulder pauldron. I'm still using the multi tasseled GK spear with a pair or the sallie symbols from drop pods covering the Inquisitor "I".

Just out of curiosity why you wanted to do a sword as the "spear" of vulkan. And I mean no disrespect by that. I'm honestly curious. Seeing as I couldn't talk myself into it. Even though I thought about it.

Edit: also you could try extending a power sword's handle with green stuff. Using a spear haft, pinned through the right hand to make it a bit bigger. Then wrap tiny strips of GS around the haft. But that's pretty intensive and I'm not sure how much you wanted you do in that regard.

Take a look at the Blood Angels "Sanguinary Guard" box.

There is a two-handed glaive in there which can have the tear drop/wings removed and turned into a more "barbaric" looking two handed sword with no hilt/crossguard.

Sanguinary Guard. If you don't mind the angel wings, or don't mind filing them off.

I dont really like the spear too much because I just don't think it's practical. I really like the look of a large two handed sword (or axe) and think it's more heroic and fitting with a knight's theme. I was thinking of getting chapter house's combi-flamer, plasma pistol and melta part along with some magnets. I could put the magnet on the champion's left arm and place the melta/flamer on there, or if i wanted to use a different character (say, sicarius) I could switch it out for a plasma pistol thing.

Or i thought about cutting down a flamer and just glueing it to his arm. or doing the same with a death company hand flamer.

Are you going for Salamanders or are you making your own chapter? If so, what's the chapter's theme? Are you also open to 3rd party sources?

I agree about the sword by the way. I don't know why but a big ass sword toting marine just feels right. And aren't CH's combi parts the ones that saddle the tops of the weapon? That seems like it could work real well if your going 2handed sword. And for swords have you checked out the black Templars sword brethren box? They have some mighty large swords in there if I remember correctly. Although they may only be 1 handed.

The regular Emperor's Champion has a nice looking sword.

Oh, im sorry I forgot to mention my theme. I am trying to make the iron knights chapter, so anything knightly will do. I have my eyes on the emperor's champion because it is pretty cheap and looks awesome.

The "Glaive Encarmine" is the set you'll want for your one two handed relic sword, you'll get a few extras you can intersperse for other unique models. The two handed sword has a hand sculpted onto it, allowing you to go in with the "Angelus Bolters"/"Infernus Pistol"/"Plasma Pistol" arms.

Grey Knights have a good two handed sword held in the right hand.

I have my Vulkan modeled with a large sword. The sword, right hand, came from a Chaos Knight of some type, an old metal mini with plastic horse blister.

Alright, sorry to re-start this thread again, but i need to ask another question for the model im useing.

So i got the emperor's champion as my model im going to use for the guy, and now I'm trying to decide how to do his flamer. one of the things I thought of is useing the Chapterhouse combi-weapon choices, glueing a magnet to the arm without the sword and placing the attachment on it. that way if I want to use other characters (plasma wielding captain/Cato, Vulkan, Ect) I can switch out the weapon to use the required attachment

think it will work?

That'll work fine, but imo you'll have less heart ache if you stick your magnet down with a blob of green stuff than you would by gluing it. Other might say different, I've just never had success by gluing.

Another option you have is the FW Terminator Weapon set, though how the hands would look in scale to PA I don't really know
