Hi, Dakka. I was reading on the Conneticut home invaders case, and was wondering if they ever got executed? I can't seem to find it on google.

If your talking about the two that raped and killed mom and her two daughters, burned the house down, and father is the only survivor from it. They were sentence to death like...two months ago

Yes, but were they officially executed? One of them had an execution date of July 20, 2012.

After receiving the death sentence, it is usually many years and appeals, and lots of tax money spent before the death part is carried out.

Nah. It will take 15-20 years on death row before they are killed, on average. There are lots of appeals to be made.

To be honest, I agree with Jihadin but for a different reason. I think 20 years of appeals from death row is cruel and usual in itself.

What I'd like to see in the death penalty is it only being used for absolutely, positively undeniable cases: a murder caught on videotape, or in front of a dozen witnesses. That sort of thing, where instead of "beyond a reasonable doubt" we have "beyond ALL doubt". The rest, the iffy ones, I'd like to see commuted to life in prison.

For the former, though, the "beyond ALL doubt", I'd like to see them get a trial, a single appeal, a SCOTUS petition, and have them executed within 2 months, tops. If you have to do it, I'd prefer it be done swiftly.

Man, reading that wiki article makes me sad and mad at the same time. What was the police doing for 7 hours ?!

Regarding death penalties, I agree with Ouze. I support the concept of capital punishment, but employed in a more limited and more efficient manner.

This brings me to the method of execution, though. I've heard that lethal injection has a surprisingly high chance of not working right, supposedly because it's so difficult to tailor the cocktail to the convict's individual body. The electric chair produced some rather gruesome results as well. Why don't they just shoot them anymore? For some reason, that seems to be the quickest and safest way to execute someone, of all the methods employed so far.

You set a date for the sentence to be carried out, even if there is no realistic hope of it being carried out.
