Hey here is the rumors thread with lots of pics and talk. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/325313.page.

I see the game as getting more popular by the second. It has a lot of fluff and background but also plays very competitively. It's first tournament will be at gen con this year and will be run by FFG themselves. This shows you that the maker of the game is behind the competitive side of Dust. This should draw a lot of players. For the other side of gaming, there is a lot of everything. Cool units with cool stories. Great conflict and suspense in the background story. The armies all play differently with a lot of different builds to choose from.

For the negative sides, it is new so finding players has been a bit difficult. The armies have been a little slow coming out but FFG seems to be picking up the pace.

Next year seems to be gearing up for some big reveals but who know what FFG will announce at Gen Con.

Just keep in mind, that there are actually TWO Dust games. Dust Tactics is the board game, Dust Warfare is the tabletop miniatures game.

I honestly didn't realize that. How popular is Dust Warfare?

Been Around the Block

We just had the first Dust Warfare Tournament on 7-28. We had 9 people show and play. In our gaming group we have about 25 people that are playing Dust Warfare regularly. We also have about 7 people playing the SSU. In the 3 round tournament nobody went 3-0. The person who won was 2-0-1 and won with break points. This game is growing fast because it is easy to learn and rewards smart players not good lists. I know in Minnesota the distributors can't get a copy of the Dust Tactics revised core set. Also both games are fun in their own way and it is nice to have the same miniatures for both games. The way to go for starting up this game is buy the revised core set and the Warfare rulebook and go from there.

I can speak for DW, but not DT: Warfare is awesome. The models are cool, and the gameplay takes more tactics than Warhammer does. There is no "auto-win" unit-everything is good against something, and bad against other things. A balanced list is the best way to win. Of course, Axis players should always include Angela in a sniper squad (1-3 shots that hit 66% of the time, and able to kill full squads of elite troops TWICE per turn...ugh). I'm very happy with the game, and I'm glad/pissed my friend got me hooked.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I agree there is nothing but good to say about this game. During a game you are constantly making tactical choices and then biting your fingernails to see if they pan out.

I have played 40k since 2nd edition and I have never played a game of 40k that challenged my tactical decision making like this game does.

I would like to jump in here , and without trying to hijack the thread , can someone give me a breakdown of the starter sets (if any) ? Been looking at my local supplier , but no pictures of the contents or descriptions of the set's .

Are they like GW's starter sets ? Is there a basic rules set included ? How balanced are the sets for new players ?

[EDIT] - This would be for the Dust:Warfare element .

I greatly appreciate the interest in my post, and the information you have given me on DW & DT. It definitely has caught my attention, as i really think the models are interesting. Of course my only concern is the lack of actual models.

Check out this thread for a breakdown of the Dust:TACTICS starter. The minis are meant for both games, so there is NO starter for Warfare. This really doesn't make a big difference since you can buy the Warfare rulebook and have the army list for both Axis and Allies right there and then immediately start collecting.

I like having the Tactics game since it is easy to convince a 40k player to try a "boardgame" and then I show them the rules for the tabletop game.
