More Grey Knighty Goodness

A tank i threw together, i think it's overkill but i love it!

Now to figure a name for that tank!

Not a fan of the Oppressors of Freedom at all, but I always respect excellent modeling- your conversions are excellent and your models have a very dynamic "action orientated" look to them. Really well done so far, looking forward to some more paint and seeing what else you come up with. Subbed and I'll be back for sure!

@cormadepanda: If by "iron man" you mean some form of vile Iron Warriors Daemon prince! then no. Heresy!@

@Skalk: Awesome praise by someone who's work i appreciate! I look forward to more comments and suggestions in the future, although i know sometimes the nurgle funk can get you down, know the emperor has fire to burn it all away!

@evildrcheese: show me where i can tactfully place more weapons and it shall be so, although i don't think it's machine spirit is too happy about the extra pay load, and neither is the enemy!

@cormadepanda: I know, it was all in character and it does a dullish gold basecoat as i did not like the idea of a gunmetal or mithril silver basecoat.

Sorry for the long wait guys, I did a little digging and finally managed to get UPS to deliver my chapter master LOL. I've been waiting for him for several weeks now and couldn't bring myself to do anything with my army until he was in my grasp. Finally posting new pics. Just give it time its coming together... I think..

That dreadnought was actually a pain, i completely spaced on taking step by step pics... because while cutting on an AOBR dread which is the main part of that dread, i sliced my thumb open several times, its an occupational hazard with modeling though... anyway, i cut open the main body, cut the top off the dread and put in a blood angels librarian dread front plate and his arms, GS'd in some of the gaps i had left over and sliced up an old imperial guard auto cannon and whittled the back end a bit and fit the barrel into the end fitting for the frag cannon and made a decent looking dread autocannon if i do say so myself . basically all i did.

The Daemon was just a side thing i did until my chapter master arrived, i toyed with an idea of making him the worlds biggest daemonhost... what do you guys think? ;D

And my chapter master has several magnetized arms for slicy, stabby, shooty, explodey goodness that only a chapter master of the space marines can truely appreciate!

Daemon host would be very cool. Would like to see more pics of the DP, and of the Chapter Master. One trick I use (hadn't recently but started again) is to take multiple shots of my models in each pose, then pick the best ones.

Also didn't mention this- awesome job and great thinking on magnetization for you CM! I really need to do that more often.

It's sometimes a pain, as i don't really have a way to drill, i just have to whittle out a hole with my exacto knife!.... But yeah its awesome i love the diversity it gives. its also easy to pose too! And i'll be sure to take more pics when i get home. i have some gold chain and some gs that is screamin: "make youre daemon prince into a giant daemon host!!!" I'm not sure why its screaming though!

only a few of my conversions are just for shitz and giggles, but the majority of my army, which i have yet to pictograph is legal and playable. off hand i don't have my list but i'm sure i could scrape one up together later if you like.

Save your $$$ and check out Youtube (or Dakka) for DIY light boxes. Way less expensive and easy to do. You can also get a couple daylight lamps. I don't have a lightbox, I just use good lights. My photos turn out reasonably well I think.

Minidrills and a dremel will help immensely. to make holes big enough for magnets, I like using the engraving tip for the dremel.

Still a few more pics of the DP and of my CM. I think he will turn out reasonably well, or at least i hope so. I re-drilled the magnet for his gun arm last night so it would sit better, i didn't think it was sitting right IMHO. Tonight i will add a wash of gryphonne sepia to golden up his armor a bit and then see what i cant do about his ugly face!... Although a pretty chapter master might not be the best way to go, thinkin about removing the head in lea for a helmet maybe.. what do you guys think!? anyways its been great as always.

@ Skalk: i made a half @$$ attempt at a light box last night like you suggested, but i dunno about it. found some on ebay for fairly cheap. also, it turns out i have very little in way of terrain making materials, any suggestions on that?

@ Shaso: i went out last night and bought a tiny sharp drill bit and shoved it into one of my spare exacto knife handles! it seems to work fairly well as i don't trust myself to drill a mini with a power tool of any size...

Light book is looking good, experiment w/ moving the light source around. Some pics it is too direct (bright) and in others it causes dark sahdows. But you're on the right track.

Regarding terrain, what sort of terrain are you looking to build? Hills / risers are the easiest to make I've found. There are a lot of tuts online, but I'll give you what I consider 'basics' for multi-level hill terrain:

1) Pick up a sheet (or sheets) of foam board (the insulation stuff you see at Home Depot / Lowes, etc).


It comes in a few thicknesses. I use 1" and 2" simply because it is easy math for movement modifiers.

2) Get a foam cutting tool. This is the exact one I use. There are many brands, many "high end" awesomeness, but really all you need is one of these:



Important note on this tool- REMOVE THE BATTERIES AFTER EACH USE! I've owned 3 of these and every one has drained the batteries dead if I leave them in.

3) Important note before I go into detail- DO THIS OUTSIDE if possible. If not, use the best ventilated space you possibly can. At minimum it smells horrible, and it can't be good for you at all. Cut foam to desired shape. This may take a bit of practice and patience. Start w/ small pieces first (when you are buying your foam sheets, see if they can give you any broken scraps and use that to practice / learn. One note to consider, and I see even experienced builders make this mistake- make sure the printing on the foam is facing DOWN (meaning the 'bottom' of your finished piece) as depending what you are going to use for paint / flock, it can show through.

4) Paint piece with a LATEX paint. I base mine w/ flat black and work up from there. If you want to use spray paint, be absolutely sure that you still paint it w/ a latex paint first as the spray paint will eat the foam. Once it is completely sealed you can paint it w/ whatever you want. I drybrush mine w/ a random dark gray color and then use Shadow Gray to build it up, sometimes also use Space Wolves Gray to highlight edges.

5) Flock. I used to use paint or PVA glue for this, recently I've been using hairspray. They all yield different results. This is a "practice makes good enough" process and I've never made anything that was completely 'bullet proof', it still sustains damage (menaing flock comes off) w/ rough handling.

6) Optional- you can use a spray sealer to make the piece more durable



I do this sometimes, sometimes not. Not sure why the disparity, it's just how I do things.
