Im thinking about including a fortification in my army but cant decide between the FoR or the Aegis Line.
Which better? Firepower wise, strategic wise, and are they both worth their points? The Fortress seems kinda pricey..

Both are worth their points.
The question is weather or not you are willing to devote 100 points or 290 points to your fortifications.
The FoR has lots of firepower. The Aegis line is cheap 4+ cover.

One thing though; as awesome as "krakstorm" missiles are, there is at least one tournament which is not going to allow the FoR.

I was going to say something along the lines as grugknuckle, as FoR is huge and much of the terrain has to be based around where it is. and most tourneys have pre set terrain and wouldnt let you move it around just so you could place a big old fortress on thefield.
i would go with the aegis. it is cheaper, comes with quad gun(for 50 pts) and gives a 4+ cover.
even though FoR does look awesome...

Yeah, a FoR is so huge it dominates any game - fine if you want some games based around such a fortress (e.g. could be a great centrepoint for a campaign), but frankly irritating if it appears in every single game. And I think regular opponents would either work out how to smash through it or would eventually refuse to play against it.
One other thing against it - it's so big it's really difficult to lug around everywhere safely, even if you put in some extra work to magnetise it into separatable sections.
The humble Aegis is so much more flexible...

I'm going to run an Aegis, because its just so cheep, gives me cover where ever I want it, (you don't know how many games I've lost because I can't get my devs far enough foward without dieing) and it gives me a skyfire weapon. I was going to run a fortress, thinking "krakstorm, OMG OMG OMG" untill I realized that guard can get a better gun for fewer points (the basilisk).
Unless you have 250+points lying around, or want to build your list around the FoR, go Aegis.

What about the Bastion? It seems nice to me for cheap that my Long Fangs can *all* fire from it without suffering *any* return fire - my worry is that (unlike the ADL) it can be targetted and destroyed and then I'd also lose my only Skyfire weapon

The Aegis can't be targeted, but any weapon purchased for it can.

the bastion is great for a cheap firebase. Making it too expensive and it will get destroyed. The problem with the bastion is it is too small, it can be avoided and it doesnt give you 4+ cover everywhere you want.

They are both great.
I feel low armour armies, like orks and IG, which also happen to come in numbers need a cover save, as de facto inv. save, so the ADL stretched thin is good.
Whereas 3+ armour do not really need cover as much.
The fortress has an issue with creating wounds for your models and the fact that in cc it is also a bad idea to be inside. As such a strong armoured army can take the wounds that hits to the fortress produce but also can form a strong meat shield if needs be.

If your troops are cheap or have a good armor save its ok to be inside buildings. Its the battlements which are an issue, in which case having cheap units inside is all the better.
