Hi Everyone

I am planning to have IG as an ally and am thinking, if I get a vet squad and then upgrade two of them to a autocannon and then put the whole squad in a chimera can the guys with the autocannon shoot out, and if so do the count as 1 person shooting or 2

Thanks

You can shoot as many weapons as you have fire points.

The Autocannon is 1 weapon, so you can fire 4 more in addition to it.

If both auto cannons are fired out that is 2 weapons so you get 3 more.

The IG HWT/VWT is a single model represented by two guardsmen on a single base.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Imperial Guard Heavy Weapon Team takes 2 men from the squad and forms a single model with 2 wounds and 2 attacks but only one shooting attack.
You can fire the autocannon from a Chimera and it uses a single firing point, BUT as autocannons are a Move-or-Fire weapon you can only fire it if the Chimera was stationary that turn.

That is not 100% true, as you are allowed to make snap shots with heavy weapons even if they move.

It's impossible to have 2 autocannons in a veteran's squad as well. You only get 1 autocannon but it takes 2 models away and they are joined into a single model that has 2 figures on a single large base.

Closest you can get is upgrade the squad with Sgt Harker, and then add your normal heavy weapon squad. So, you can possibly have two heavy bolters, and three special weapons.

No, it blocks LoS from the hatch.

Unless they are firing out of the turret hatch itself. The Chimera rules don't specify where the fire points actually are. Also in my view they could easily be hanging halfway out of the rear hatch with the AC lying on the turret anyway (Grunts are inventive chappies).

What? Why do you say that?

Isn't the general consensus that all shots are taken from the hatch on the turret?

Wait, aren't there SIX firepoints on a chimera? So it would be the autocannon plus 5? As for the firepoints themselves, I always assumed those lasguns sticking out the back were the fire points. Which if the turret is turned right, you can get maybe 1 forward facing shot. Or as it IS a turret, you could just turn the Chimera slightly.

Hear we go:

Page 39 of IG codex

"FIVE MODELS can fire from the Chimera's TOP HATCH. In reality, several are firing from the fixed lasgun emplacements along either flank, but for simplicity we assume all shots to BE TAKEN FROM THE HATCH."

Take the 5 shots from the top hatch. Not the lasgun emplacements at the back.

And that Top hatch is which one? The one flanked by the Lasguns (I use that one) or the turrent hatch?

Step one: Look at the two.
Step two: Use your brain to figure out which can fit 5 guys.
Step three: For a tournament as the TO.

I agree it should be easy to see, but shouldn't we post a ruling using you know rules rather then an insult?

Sorry, i guess i'm still kinda bitter about the man with "crud" in his name attracting every WAAC 12 yr old in the game to the army i used to love.

To be fair, the rear hatch couldn't fit anywhere near 5 models either, and is only marginally (very marginally) bigger than the turret hatch. So it's easy to see where the confusion lies. Because a.) Both hatches are roughly the same size, and b.) the rules do not clarify which hatch they are talking about.

GW have never been too bothered about transports scales either, which really doesn't help with this matter. The scale issue is the same with the SM Rhino.

So needlessly insulting people when it's clearly the fault of GW for hazy explanations and a scale issue isn't very fair to be honest.

Has this been FAQ'd?

GW would never FAQ that, it would mean they have to work.

Yea but in the description it says guardsmen are using the fixed las guns on the hull but for simplicity just fire any 5 guys. This is a huge gimme already considering you used to have to fire those crap las guns and now you can fire SW and HW. I know this is a fluff description but nowhere in the main body of rules does it tell you to use the turret hatch either.

I would say decide at the table with your opponent or ask the TO.

Because in times of old the six lasguns could be manned by the squad inside while a single guy popped out of the hatch to shoot his special weapon.

In the fluff they only where lasguns, and it reflected in prior rules. the models inside could fire the lasguns as lasguns or open the hatch and fire one weapon out of it. However since you opened the hatch its now opentopped.
