From what I can figure out from the FAQ on the Black Templars in 6th Ed. they still seem able to use Drop Pods. They were updated to be able to take land raiders as dedicated transports but the section on drop pod transports was not altered. If this is true I'd like to submit the following list as fun way to scare the enemy and have a blast.

HQ (505pts)

Emperors Champion
"Accept the Challenge, No Matter the Odds"

Castellan
Terminator armor, Power Weapon, Storm Bolter
4 Man Terminator Command Squad: 2x Cyclone Missile Launchers, Tank Hunters, Drop Pod

Troops (551pts)

(1x) 9 Man Crusader Squad
Frag Grenades, 7x ccw and bolt pistol, Flamer, Sgt w/ Power Wepon and Bolt Pistol, Drop Pod

(1x) 10 Man Crusader Squad
Frag Grenades, 8x ccw and bolt pistol, Flamer, Sgt w/ Power Wepon and Bolt Pistol, Drop Pod

(1x) 5 Man Crusader Squad
Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon, 3x Bolters, Drop Pod

Elites (785pts)

(1x) 5 Man Terminator Squad
2x Cyclone Missile Launchers, Tank Hunters, Drop Pod

(2x) 5 Man Terminator Assault Squad
5x TH + SH, Drop Pod, Furious Charge

Fast Attack (155pts)

StormTalon
Skyhammer Missile Launchers

This army should drop 4 pods on the first round, and will allow you to pick between the best guys for the initial assault. The rest can be held in reserve, to come in on round two on a 3+ (avg is 2 pods), or the troops can be deployed on the ground and the pods left empty. There is plenty of fire power here, and with the new upgrades too terminators they should be able to weather quite a bit of firepower, especially with the Assault Termies out front. Who expects Termies from pods these days eh

On first round you can Put the small tac on an objective on your side to hold it down with the stormtalon backing them up from the edge of its 60" range, and then unleash hell with Drop Podding Terminators. On the second round drop the two assault crusaders squads where you need them (champion rides with the 9 man) and stick it to the opponent. I'm not saying this army would be competitive, but might be alot of fun

What do you guys think?

You do not have a storm talon.

I would try assault cannons with tank hunter.

I would try to have it so you can bring most of your army down first turn.

Also you need some means to down flyers.

Sadly we don't have storm talons. Like MFletch said.

I was thinking, if your crusaders dropped first and your castellan was in that squad instead you could give him a teleport homer so next turn so you don't even need those drop pods you could have them deep strike down without a scatter. Just a thought.

Also I've seen so many templar drop pod lists lately. Why have them become so popular now?

Black Templars are the best Space Marine Chapter out of all the Space Marines. They are the most fanatical marines out there. They are on an endless, eternal crusade for the god emperor. AND they get in the face of the enemy. Thats the way to get things done.

They have finally been upgraded to land first turn a la vanilla marines. Just in time the rules to really benefit a first turn drop.
They are cheap, can be took by termies and you can have small scoring squads of 5 men though armed to drop late, are the main advantages.

Ah, missed the part about no stormtalons, thanks fortheheads up on that! Will have to play around with the castellan w/ teleport homer, that would save me 120 points on pods. Could always throw a back up locator beacon on the crusader squads drop pods to be safe. Only worry is surviving round 1 and termies possibly rolling poorly for reserves. Thanks for the advise guys!

Just a heads up, but you will need to add a 5th terminator to your castallen command squad (thinking it is a typo). Also, I would take Typhoons instead of the Stormtalon (mostly because it is illegal in a BT list).

I had been toying with CML vs. Assault Cannons and did a bit of number crunching. Assault cannons out performed the CML in every situation by sheer amount of fire (MC, MEQ, AV) and they are cheaper points wise. If you want the Missile Launcher I would again point you to the Typhoon speeder.

You will also need something to deal with Flyers. As of right now you will be snap-firing. Maybe think about an Aegis Defense Line w/ Quadgun.

@ Falco: For a terminator comand squad, you can have at minimum 4 terminators. A little trick we can get away with.
1X terminator SGT ( command squads are the only BT squads that can have sargents)
2X heavy weapons
1x Other (storm bolter PF/chain fist)
Thats what I normally run. Plus then you have the HQ to allow you to have a command squad.

Yes, for your shooty termie squads, I would either start them on the board, or use a teleport homer.

OH.... also for the storm talon... why not take it..... as an ally?! Hell, just paint it up like a brother chapter, Imperial Fists, Crimson Fists, or if you have anothoer SM army, paint it like that, and take it as an ally. I am thinking about doing that. just because, now in every list I take a ADL(aegis defense line) with the Quad gun.

Wow great idea with the Allied StormTalon, and ADL with Quad would be very nice for Anti Air. Between Dropping the pods and Switching to Assault Cannons, I'll have to see if the numbers work out

Personally, i run the termies with assault cannons on the ground in a command squad, it allows for a heavy punch now that we have Relentless. Accept any challenge and FC on the termies makes for a nice charge. And while i like the homer idea, i limits you to just those locations were a drop pod lets you have a little more freedom. you just need to remember you will scatter.

He shouldnt be taking FC with Power Fisted Terminators that are out fitted with either 2 Assault Canons or 2 Cyclones. You should be taking Tank Hunters, allowing you to re-roll glancing or less AP rolls against vehicles. FC should be taken on Lighting Claw terminators that are coming out of a land raider to rape face.

Because (a) one on its own is crap, and (b) that also involves taking an allied HQ and Troop.
