I dont seem to find anything in the rule book on this.
When unit A fires at unit B only the models in range and with enemies they can see may shoot.
To wound only those models can generate wounds by shooting.

Now what happens with the squad removing casulties?

Lets say the orks (O) are being shot by some marines (M).
(Oh is an ork hidden in terrain)

O
O
O
Oh

MMMM

The distance is 24´between the line of marines and the closest ork.
All the marines are in range to the nearest ork but ONLY the nearest ork.

The marines shoot, hit and cause 4 wounds.

How many orks are now removed?
The rule book says that all models that have range and line of sight to at least one enemy model may fire and thus cause wounds but then again the marines can only reach one of the orks (two actually but the chosest one is hidden by terrain).

So do the orks remove all models except the one hidden from sight (one wound caused by the marines wasted)
or
Do the orks only remove one model since the marines can only reach one?

It´s probably dirt simple but I havent found this to be covered in the rule book.

The 4 nearest orks within LoS would be removed assuming they failed their save (if any).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Pg. 16 Out of Range an Out of Sight.

If you take out all the models in range you keep wounding models in the unit. However if you take out all the models in LOS you lose the remaining wounds.

So after determining who can shoot range no longer matters but LOS does.

The marine cannot fire.

Page 12, CHECK RANGE.
When checking range, simply measure from each firer to the nearest VISIBLE model in the target unit.

Don't worry about where to apply wounds, the Marine unit cannot fire, and "a different target must be chosen."

This. If the 2nd Ork was behind cover it would work that the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Orks could be hit and wounded, but the 2nd cannot. As it is now no one could be shot at.

I thought so at first as well, but re-reading the original post, the two orks in front are within range of all the marines, only one of them {the closest one is completely} out of sight. If they were exactly 24" away from the hidden ork, you would be correct.
