Got a few points to spare

General plan would be to field a gunline with my kroot outflanking and suits scouting up infront of the gunline to troubleshoot

C&C welcome, as well as suggestions for the remaining points

To many Fire warriors if you ask me. Also they will not last long if they don`t have transports to taxi them around. And your kroot would be hard pressed to handle a green tide or Paladins dropping out from a Storm raven

Heart of Sotha, Awaiting Sortie.

I personally use 9 man Firewarrior teams in a Devilfish. the Devilfish taking the Disruption pod is an obvious choice and a multi tracker. A Shas'Ui with a Markerlight and Target lock is also a very good option!

Do not ever make your Firewarriors walk across the field! If need be, have a 9 man team sit behind in cover on an objective, while the other two units move up to claim others.

Also, go with another Rail head. Two Rail heads are deadly. And allow you to just punch out a tank a shot if need be. Use the Shas'Ui's Marker light to raise the BS of the Rail Heads to increase your chances of killing those tanks.

Your battle suits are very vulnerable with out shield drones. I highly suggest taking a pair of drones with each and drop the stealth team. The stealth team wont offer you any thing if you are taking them bare bone.

your XV88's (Not Xv22's ;] ) need the extra wounds as well. Make sure they both have shield drones. They wont need Multi trackers if they will sit in a corner sniping off tanks.

My 2 cents!

Hope it helps,

Ciph.

Spamming all those troops is going to hurt you without a plan to get them on objectives, and 6 units is overkill at 1500 points when you are playing an army with such bad troops in the first place.

The new fortifications (I like the Bastion for Tau) are great bunkers to hole up in, and they give flyer defense, AND the roof lets your Broadsides see basically the whole battlefield while claiming a 3+ cover save and being immune to assault. Get an Imperial Bastion.

Stealth Suits and Sniper Teams are still really sub -par also, even with the buffs to their stealth generators. I should mention that you built your hammerhead illegally. You need to buy either drones, burst cannons, or smart missiles for the front pods, they aren't optional. A Multi-tracker is also nice for much better mobility.

Yeah interesting.

Just a couple of points. The fire warriors would sit at back (maybe a 3 FW line would do better with more points elsewhere). Then I'd have the kroot outflank and work on the enemy home objective. The whole idea is to let my enemy come to me and draw them off their own objective (if they have one). In relic games I'd have my kroot inflitrate, take the objective and run back towards my line whilst I had my 2nd kroot unit and stealth team soak up fire.

Also, my problem with tanks now is that they can go down easily. Dev fish go down to two glancing hits and I've found that broadsides (giving two twin link ralguns for every hammerhead) are more survivable, especially with the two shield drones.

Taking advice into account, I'd consider doing this:

Got 11 points spare. Considering dropping the stealths or a fire warrior squad and upping the other two teams and getting shield drones on the suits

Do you have access to Eldar or Space marines?

I have access to both and can field most things from both, except the huge forge world pieces that are horribly expensive.

I was going to use the 1.5k tau list and then expand using allies. I'd prefer to use SM

Also, do the guns on my fort need tau/kroot to operate or are they good to do their own thing?

If they need operating, any ideas to who should do that? Can drones do it?

Id say way too many fire warriors, also theres a worrying lack of markerlights imo

Also tbh stealth suits arent worth it, theyre cool and all, but if you want to be "competitive" (hate that word) then I wouldnt take them.

Also 40 Kroot is kinda overkill.

Also may I suggest dropping the plasma rifles on the broadsides and going to targetting arrays on both? This means with BS4 and twin linked you will VERY rarely miss, and broadsides want to be shooting tanks really, which the plasma will normally either be useless against or out of range.

I'd suggest, drop a fire warrior team and a kroot unit, mabye split the 20 man kroot unit into two of ten, not sure what you want to use them for though, Get some pathfinders in, or if your tourny isn't banning FW, some tetras even, I wouldn't recommend markerlights in fire warrior teams, as the model costs 30 points, (or 35 if you want to fire the pulse rifle) that isnt allowed to split fire thanks to the new FAQ that removes target locks.

Finally, theres a lack of crisis suits, especially with plasma. Crisis suits kill stuff, plasma kills marines (and 2+ save shizz). If you want to kill infantry then go for burst cannons + plasma + MT, or for marines/light vehicles Missile pod instead of the burst cannons.

Also as someone else said, might be worth throwing some shield drones on the commander or crisis to protect against lucky missiles, add a higher I value in CC for running away, and just add some survivablity

So to summarise:

More crisis?
Less Fire warriors
Get some markerlights
Broadsides focussed on tank popping
Drop the stealth team

Thats my view. I play tend to play a more battlesuit focussed game with tau though, so mabye you just want to go with the massed S5 shots approach? If so then id still drop the stealth team and get a pathfinder team and arrays on the broadsides

Hope that helps and im not coming over as a dick or anything! good luck with your tourny

Oh also, as far as allies go, I have heard wonderful things about taking a farseer with divination for the primaris power, might be worth looking into

Also the gun can I believe fire on its own at BS2, or be operated by any model so drones can, but being BS2 its sorta pointless

Thanks for the reply

As i said above this is like the core for a bigger army, at 1800 points. This army is ideally going to be able to cover the basics and would ideally do well if thrown into a tourny at 1.5k. Then i was thinking of adding 300 points from an allied detachment (probs SM or Eldar) to support the 1500 point core and sure up its weaknesses

Also, i've already got broadsides with plasmas so they can move on terminators equivelant armour once the tanks are downed

The role of the 40 kroot is to outflank and cause problems for the enemy as much as a furioso dread in a drop pod would if it came out in ur lines. Ofc they are different kind of threats but I'd love to see my opponent react to 80 S4 AP5 shots hitting them in the flank

Got 158 points spare for a pathfinder team. How should I take them. I'm thinking of giving the dev to fire warriors once the game has started so they can take a forward objective

As far as allies go, I'm thinking a Stormtalon, some scouts, and a Librarian that can use Gate of Infinity and jump broadsides about. If I rolled badly I'd sacrifice a drone to the daemon that reaches out of the warp and punishes you for liking psychic

The scouts would operate the fort ideally

Also, I don't think I can take two wargear items on the broadsides unless they're a team leader

Anyway. This is my latest list:

The problem with such beefy broadsides is that they will die just as fast as if they dont have the PR and MT. And your relying on 2 squads to take care of vehicles and terminators when they will all be bearing down on you. Too many eggs in one basket. Crisis suits are where Tau dish out the pain and plasma is a key part of that.

It's unfortunate that we don't have more options but there is a correlation with crisis suit numbers and Tau ability to win.

I'm relying on two broadside teams of two each and a hammerhead for anti-tank. My Crisis teams are able to deal with anti light vehicles whilst the quad gun can do the same too
