So I like the Defiance Games UAMC Marines and want to collect the models for my Imperial Guard Army. I will convert any special weapons to be WYSIWYG so the meltagun will be a GW meltagun, same with the plasmagun and any other weapons. Now with this in mind will most people play with a Non-GW army? Also will TO's allow non-GW models if its an Independent Tournament. I know I'm not going to be able to use them in a GW sponsored event.

An example of the UAMC Marines

Its going to vary from game to game. Biggest advice: contact the TO well in advance and make sure. Also, make sure you use GW weapons, especially special weapons, to reduce confusion.

Just to point that out. As for the standard guys, a guy with an assault rifle is obviously a guy armed with a lasgun, so I'm not going to use IG lasguns. Plus the scale will be off anyways. Meltaguns will look big and bulky like they are in the fluff, and Marines will actually look like 7ft tall beside them, so it will add to the experience.

Most casual players won't care, so long as they can tell what is what.

Tournaments are going to come down to the TO and the venue. Store-run tournaments might frown on them if they dont sell the Defiance stuff.

Nice models, personally I think they would look better with their sleeves down, but still look nice. Also, outside of a GW store just make sure everything is easy to identify, vets look different (different helmet, different body/weapon style, different colour), a sniper rifle and lasgun can be told apart at a quick glance, officers and sergeants have a pistol of some kind.

I agree with the sleeves as well, and yes any special weapon, as in any not Lasguns will be Identified with a GW special weapon. Also the nearest GW store in a couple of hours away so I would rarely play there.

i know my store doesnt mind if i use 3rd party models for tounements and the local players love to see the non gw stuff.
Just make sure you still spend money there to support your local store.
I still by my vehicles there to avoid confusion about what they are, and it supports the store.

My store has no problem using 3rd party bitz and models. So many guys convert their armies we'd lose over 80% od the player base if 3rd party stuff was banned. We just follow 2 rules, WYSIWYG and rule of cool. If it looks cool and you can tell what it is, no one will care.

I also like the Defiance stuff, and if they ever get their butts in gear and decide to build the panzergrenadiers, i'll be buying 2 or 3 boxes of those for my vets and stormtroopers in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I plan on buying the panzer-grenadiers to be my Mechanized army. The UAMC are going to be my Gravtroopers (Using Imperial Armor 8 Elysian Rules)

On the same topic as op, has anyone ever faced a purely counts-as army? What were your thoughts on it?

I'm thinking of making, out of GW skaven and a whole range of models from different games/suppliers etc, a counts-as army of daemons.

I think you would need to be intimately aware of what the daemons rulebook looks like in order to figure out what the things are (especially since Daemons don't really have the hallmark weapons of GW for me to mod on there)

How would that fare, do you think? In a GW store? In a tournament?
For friendly games, I know my opponents and I know they would just think it was cool.

If you have non GW models then it won't be allowed at GW stores is what I hear.

Given GW prices i'm fine with people using models from other companies as long as they are still appropriate to the setting, i would not want to fight WW2 german infantry with my SW for example.

But if they look "futuristic" thats all i really need, well that and their being the right scale.

They always look kind of "wrong" to me.
The ones in the OP just...don't look like Imperial Guard.

There are some space mariney ones that look alright though.

I thought they looked like a varient of Elysians, an Airborne IG army.

Seeing as IG can be any force from medieval knights to futuristic aircav I think they fit in perfectly.

Yeah out of all the codexes in the game, IG, more than any other, should be fine with 3rd party models. Despite all the hype for cadians, not all armies use their style of equipment (or even most) and equipment varies based on where they're from. Look no further than the DKOK, Elysians, catachans, vostroyans, valhallans, the tallarn, the steel legion, or the sons of tanith to see what i mean. You could give them muskets and old cannons and it would still be accurate. There are supposedly even regiments that are armed with nothing but spears and slings from tribal worlds.

Playing against german WWII models wouldnt be a far stretch. say they're from the same neighborhood as the steel legion or DKoK, and say they were given autoguns, and bam, you've got a fluffy army

With GW pulling back from prize support, I think stores and TO's should be more supportive of 3rd party models than ever.

There is a norm toward all GW models, I wouldn't be upset if it started to erode.
