How I imagine Mitt would respond, were he present:
Imaginary Mitt Romney wrote:Well, first off, let me say that it's shameful, the way you politicized the Olympics. So it's everyone helping each other then?
Businesses don't just appear, they need to be built in the same way and Olympian gets to the Olympics.
It's a very similar thing admittedly with a few differences but the idea is fairly similar.

I think he also underestimates the amount of personal effort and work that the average elite athlete puts in to just getting to the Olympics, and every single one of them seems to be extremely thankful to all of those who have helped them. That seems like a huge insult to all the work and sacrifice they put in. The amount of work someone puts in to starting a business is nothing compared to the work of an elite athlete, and the potential rewards are huge compared to a shiny medal and a life of illness and injury.

True, though starting a business isn't exactly a walk in the park either...

No, but it is just life. It's not easy, but what is. Its not a herculean effort beyond the ken' o' mortal man. Life isn't easy.
I have seen both, my dad was a world class oarsman back in 20's, only just missing out on an Olympic place in the 70's along with other achievements. He was also a dentist who owned ran his own surgery.

Sorry, I was just trying to spoof how impossible it is to get a straight answer on even the simplest issue on a politician. It seemed a useful exercise since this is, really, a rhetorical thread anyway. What do you expect the guy or his surrogates to say, yeah, we're big fat hypocrites? They are politicians, it's part of the job.

Well everything they do becomes political.
You'd have thought at this point people would have learned to act better in public at least...

It's because, if Olympians are given less credit, Romney still gets his money, but if businesspeople are given less credit, Romney's finances are damaged, and so are those of all the people using their finances to get him votes.

I think the cat as an elected official was a step in the right direction.
He is also quite insane on several policies
1. Every president has been "insane" on different things since the history of ever.
2. The definition of "insane" in this context in insanely subjective.
3. Do you really think Romney and Obama are better choices?
Honestly, I think a little insanity might do our country some good. We've been pussyfooting around for too long. Our economy is in the gakker, our foreign policy is a joke, and our military actions are questionable. We're so close to the bottom of the barrel that the odds of going further down are pretty slim.
But then, perhaps bottoming out is what this country needs in order to realize the amount of changes that need to be made. In which case, vote Obama.

One would think that after eight years of bushes legitimate insanity one would be tired of it.

And if blank uninformed promises to "fix things when I'm elected" without details and massively conflicting ideologies are what this country needs vote mittens.
Mitt Romney: For when you want to expand defense spending while drawing down wars while cutting taxes while cutting defense spending while increasing our efforts in afghanistan while repealing obamacare while reducing health expenses while cutting health expenses while expanding health coverage while solving the deficit. If there's a thing someone wants somewhere mitt will give it to them. All he needs is your vote.

Said everyone who ever ran for president.
Not saying it's ok, just saying.
I'm all for healthcare for poor people. I'm on Medical which is California's health plan for people with low or no income. It's paid for by Californians, for Californians. Many things are not covered by it after you turn 18(vision and dental) but all emergency care and ambulance calls are, as well as most general practice needs and generic medications.
California has determined what system works for them, in their situation. Rhode Island may have completely different needs, or the same plan may not be financially viable.
I do believe that every state should have some form of public healthcare. But I believe that each state should decide how to do it.
Letting the federal government decide everything for us is a terrible idea.
To me, the federal governments job is to manage the states, to pass laws that apply to all states, maintain foreign policy and so on. We don't need the federal government dictating healthcare across the board, except perhaps for them saying that each state MUST have some form of public healthcare. Federal programs work for gak. Let the states decide what to do with their money.
States are honestly bad enough at managing their money, they don't need help. The federal government is probably the worst organization in the world at managing money. They spend it on all the wrong things at the wrong times. Several companies that were bailed out by the government still ended up declaring bankruptcy. Throwing money at problems doesn't work, but congress seems to think it does.

Ron Paul is not perfect, but then no one is. He is still worlds better than the other options.

Your posts are full of false equivalence, A. Not all politicians are the same, and no, Romney and Obama are not equivalent. There's a level on which I agree that the Dems and Reps are way too similar, too corrupt and too corporatist, but pretending they're the same is most of the time just an excuse for abdicating your responsibility to figure out which of them is genuinely better than the other, and voting that way.
Romney is in some ways unprecendented. His complete unwillingness to put forward any actual constructive policy ideas is honestly appalling. At least Kerry stood for something. And I don't know where people get the idea that Obama's been bad on foreign policy. I'd like us to get those wars ended a little faster, but overall he's done pretty darn well. Restored respectful and friendly relationships with most of the world after the problems of the Bush years. Handled Libya beautifully.
I admire Paul in some respects, but in some he is a dangerous nutjob. Idealism is admirable, but not when it leads to sincere advocacy of insane policies.
