Hi all,

Just thought i'd ask what everyone use's to transport their figures? I'm looking to get a case as I'm currently using a box which is not ideal. Have had a look at the GW ones but seem of poor quality and not much space for the models I have. I like the Battlefoam ones but are very expensive. Has anyone made their own? and if so what did you use? I would be using the box to transport my Blood angels, have 2 stormravens 6 razorbacks. Any advice would be greatly appreaciated.

I've done both (bought and built my own) in the end i think battlefoam is the way I will go even if i pay out the nose for it. But to answer your question I took a plastic storage tub and some cheap bed (egg foam) I cut it to fit the edges and bottom of the case. I simply stack my minis inside and then put another layer of foam on top of it. Its cheap perhaps 15 dollars US depending on what you buys specifically.

It all depends on what kind of models you have, both in size/shape and quantity.

If you have a lot of basic guys, the GW cases are pretty good. I wouldn't trust them as luggage, or for anything more from going to-from gaming and keeping the guys safe, but at that job, I have had no complaints (and I have OLD cases too). I do like the foam they use as well, as it is nicely soft. Since I have a lot of models that have things that stick out, a bit of softness and give prevents a lot of breaks during transport. However, the drawback to the GW cases is that you are usually stuck with their foam, so you'll be cutting it yourself, or buying more which can be a bit of a pain. They also do not have amazing storage space for large things (like Stormravens).

Battlefoam and the other custom bags offer you a lot of customization and luggage-quality bags, but you pay for it. I have one Battlefoam bag, a big one for my Dark Elves and I'm mostly happy with it. However, I am not a fan of the foam that Battlefoam uses, as it is much more stiff and unforgiving than GW foam. It's sturdier, but you'll be doing more transport-damage fixes. The other big plus of BF is that you can pretty much get exactly the foam you need for your models. With its custom creator, you can have a personalized set of foam that fits your bag and army exactly. It's very nice, but it is a bit of a mind bender to work out the sizes and how much fits in your bag. You'll want to be taking notes of sizes and shapes of foam if you go Battlefoam, as you can easily mess it up if you are not vigilant. Also, as a final drawback, Battlefoam is slow, you'll be waiting a fair bit for the bag and foam.

So for the breakdown

GW
Pros: Ease to get, soft foam, price
Cons: Not customizable, not luggage quality

Battlefoam
Pros: Durable bags, custom foam
Cons: Price, delivery time, stiff foam (though this is a YMMV issue)

I've got a KR cases back pack that i use to carry around 5k worth of units, it means i have alot of flexability but can easy transport stuff.

They have trays designed for most armies, its not cheap but its a one off cost and i could never manage the same with GW cases.

Cheers for the tips, I'll have a look at the KR case's not heard of them befor.
I did think it was confusing trying to work out which trays go in which bag with the battlefoam ones and even how much foam would fit in them.

I'd recommend KR case to anyone.

There was a small misunderstanding in the shipment of mine, and I got the wrong bag. Mistakes happen to every company, but how they handle them is, to me, what defines a company.

KR made it entirely painless to me, taking care of the problem at their cost without a word.

The case is great, and you know that if anything unforeseen happens, they won't leave you hanging. Big glowing star to KR.

Their site is a little unwieldy until you learn to navigate it though.

I heard a rumour they're working on a new design. I'm looking forward to that.
