Hey guys I couldn't find any post on Pre-Heresy legions any where, so i made one.
Any ways I just wanted to ask who your favorite pre-heresy marines were, and why they are your favorite (characteristics, fighting style, colors, primarch, even special characters)

Iron Within, Iron Without




In terms of pre-heresy status, my favorite Legions don't change much pre or post, the loyalist ones remain rather bland and...well, loyal. they don't have many faults, while the interesting ones are the Traitor Legions, the ones with faults, the ones that go too far, the ones that have some character to them.


Obviously I'm an Iron Warriors fan, though in truth I like most of the Traitor Legions and especially the non-cult ones. I like the idea of the bitter traitor who fights on through uncounted years, pushed ever onward by hate and the feeling that it was *they* who were betrayed, not the betrayers. They use the power of Chaos, knowing that it will damn them and not caring, to pursue the Long War simply for the sake of their hatred.

The Cult Legions are a little less interesting to me as a result, with the Long War being an avenue of worship for their gods more than anything else, they are truly slaves to darkness, they fight to give glory to their patrons rather than to pursue vengeance, as opposed to being lost and damned like the other legions, if that makes sense...


To that end, I'm rather partial to the Iron Warriors and Night Lords especially, also the Alpha Legion and Black Legion, though the Thousands Sons are also pretty interesting, the circumstances of their Treason being highly ironic and rather sympathetic.

Instead of the best, make a thread about the worst. Everyone has their favorite legion, probably the army they play.

I love the pre-Heresy Emperor's Children ever since I read Fulgrim. I really like their backstory, colours and everything. Funnily enough they're probably the traitor legion I hate the most.
