I was happy for a long time just to have 1 solid army, my beloved Blood Angels.... Sure sometimes I came close to buying a Ork (Dakka Dakka Dakka!!) or Necron (shoe polish!) battle force but I was always able to resist.

But now I can make a Ork/Necron battle force? Give them all snazzy hats?!? Necron Warriors, immortals deathmarks and w/e other fancy names they got + Some giant ork on a bike and his biker buddies and those cool copter things... I dont care if its effective that just sounds fracking brillant to see... and I cant sleep... its 5:44am... bah... grrr....

I know the pain. I'm thinking about adding some more Sisters of Battle, and picking up some Deathwatch Marines to round out my Grey Knights with a force from every major Ordo of the Inquisition.

It's torture! After running strictly orks for over a decade I had finally settled on an IG mek army. I was starting to collect it when 6th allies rumors leaked now I've got a million different army lists trying to blend a CC Dark Angel ally with an IG force. Without a strict codex to limit me I can't make up my mind on anything (and my wallet is significantly lighter, unfortunately).

Starting a new army used to be a major decision. Hundreds of dollars of outlay, weeks spent assembling models, and huge piles of unpainted miniatures. Now whenever I see a cool model or have a cool idea a little voice whispers in my ear "Go on, it's only one unit. You can use them as allies. It's not like you're getting a whole new army..."

That's an exalt for Kaldor right there...!

Fortunately I've been to busy to crack on with anything 'hammer related, and haven't bought anything other than tools and a couple of conversion parts in a while, BUT the allies matrix keeps me up at night, flicking through codex's wondering "what if"... Damn thing. Damn awesome, cool, insomnia inducing thing...

Allies are a *part* of your army, not an add-on. You already have a completed force so you see it the way you do.
I am making a mono-Tzeentch Deamon army, so if I get some Thousand Sons and a Sorcerer it's a durable scoring unit, meaning i can save points on gakky horrors.

At least you can actually use the models when you start a fragment of an army but don't start the whole thing. Before you were fethed if that happened.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

I love it, it means my Blood Angels Successor chapter can use a Lysander counts as to lead my DC, as well as a Storm Talon and efficient Tactical Marines.

I have been able to resist buying anything new, simply because of the Allies rule. I also tend to like my armies to be driven by the background material as I see it.

I have IG and Space Marines so no need for additonal allies there, and I just can't picture my Orks allying with anyone as it does not suit them to not instantly be krumping any non-Ork they see.

Yeah, its too tempting:

GK with Necrons
BA with IG
Eldar with SM
Orks with <insert here>

If I was just going to add onto my BA army I am stuck between Warlock on a jetbike + pathfinders vs Crisis suits + firewarriors :/

I dont really want to get allies, the only reason to do so would be to counter my friends taking alot of fliers which is a weakness my SW have until i gain access to skyfire.

At that point i'd probably get my old IG out update their paint job and buy either some flyers or AA.

I might use the allies rules sometime, just to get a bigger game going. Not a big fan of them though.

I can field a Detachment of Deathwing, a detachment of Ravenwing and a Detachment of Dark Angels. With the new rules I cannot do that, kinda odd, do they expect my Dark Angels to hang about waiting for some friendly Necrons to turn up and offer assistance? Not that the DA ever ally with anyone else anyway.

Some of the alliences that can be made are just plane odd aswell.

Well there are some uf us(me included) who long ago just admitted that GW plastic crack would take all my mouney. So I have enough forces to make allies, and no need to buy more. But then again I most lily will.

But I do see what people mean with allies breaking their bank.

I'm just happy that now if I play a game both of my armies can be put to use even if it isn't that effective
