I played a game the other night where a Furioso Dreadnought (FA13) charged my unit of nurgle marines. The unit had already lost a number of models and was down to three standard troopers and one with a melta gun. He charged, I snap fired and missed. The first round of combat I found out I had no weapons to hurt it. Lucky my opponent could not roll anything good so the combat lasted a few rounds with me just standing there waiting for the hit.
Is there something else I could have done??.. outside of hiding my sergeant with power glove in hopes he will end up in close combat like this??

Charge the dreadnought with something that can kill it so you can rescue your Plague Marines?

Er dont you have Krack nades?
Melta Bombs would be better since they hit on Weapon Skill.

Yup. You need to get that PF in there, don't forget when all of your guys are in B2B or supporting you get to choose which models are taken as casualties from the front rank, then move your low init models forward to fight.

If you can't hurt it at all and you actually lose the combat, then use the Our Guns Are Useless special rule to try to break free.

Fearless units like Plague Marines, however, will not be able to retreat due to Our Weapons Are Useless.

Unfortunantly, the Plague Marines are stuck.
Can they take Melta Bombs? If so, they should. Also a PF isn't going to be amiss either.

options in the chaos codex? never!
the champion can have them for 5 points. Not bad but he is just going to get challenged and killed.

Just to double check this isn't a new problem?
You will now last longer due to the new FNP.

Dreadnaught weapons are strength 10, so the plaguemarines don't get their FNP. (they do against blood talons, or whatever they're called... I don't play blood angels)

I assumed we were talking about blood talons. Though I think librarian dreads are cool and pretty decent, you just do not see them and now hoods are nerfed they are not as valuable.

No Melta Bombs ... No FNP... Looks like my tactic is to avoid the thing or just hope I can actually roll something good before I get in close combat.

The Plague Champion can take a meltabomb if you want the cheap option, and it hits easier now. I prefer the Power Fist myself, as plagues are tough but not that good at killing stuff and the Fist makes sure they always have 1-2 AP2 wounds in store.
Another option is to keep a Daemon Prince Nearby, as they are quite good against vehicles.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.
In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos. |
