I recently decided to build a Hydraphant, the largest of the Tyranid gargantuan creatures, but wanted some experience with something smaller, so i decided to build a heirophant. I didn;t take any pictures of the progress as I am planning to do with the Hydraphant, but still wanted to share my finished bug with Dakka.

I know you said you didn't take WiP pictures but can you describe how you went about this?

The model is made from 2 tyrannofex rupture cannons, the tyrannofex head, 4 scything talons and .5" insulation foam . I drew out rough plans, traced the designs onto a sheet of foamboard and detailed/sculpted it with a very sharp razor blade. The torso is 4 sheets thick, and the tail is 3. The process is very difficult to describe without pictures, as there is alot of mental visualization required making a 3d model from a 2d plan.

here is the master rough that I used to make stencils and plan the height and angel of the model and legs.

great model, really bad base. you'd be surprised at how much a base adds to a model... especially one of that magnitude.

@supreme overlord I'm sorry you don't like the base. What would you change about it.

I can't remove the digestion pool or the capillary tower, as my girlfriend made those. I also can't change the base or rim colors, as the rest if the army is based in that manner.

Hats off! As far as scratchbuilds go thats pretty impressive. I was intially going to remark on the head swap, before I realised how much of the model you had made yourself! I know that you have the rest of your army with the base rims painted green, but I would suggest making it a tone or 2 darker, only because at that scale there's a little more rim:base than you would otherwise find on a model and it detracts slightly from the overall look. Otherwise excellent work!

Nice scratch build, did you have an original for reference? The proportions are really good.

For what it's worth, here's what I used for my hierophant base. The supports can be hidden with dark cotton wool to simulate smoke from the wreckage. And of course it doesn't hurt to put any spare gribblies on the base too!

Thanks everyone! Ill work a bit more on the base and definitely add a few more little gribblies.

@ Xttz, Ive never actually seen an actual forgeworld heirophant. I took the tervigon torso and used that as a base for my heirophant. From pictures, the heirophant did not look bulky enough for my tastes. The rest was designed from sizes i had seen
online and the limits of my materials. I used 1/2 inch foam, which limited the width of the legs.

Quick tip.... Dont let your Girlfriend add to your creations...i did once a long time ago and i ended up going from here add this knife to his belt to here find a way to incorporate this awful amalgamation of chaos and nid bits in rainbow colours to you dark angel..... that relationship came to an end and i made sure my new partner does her own models and projects and not involved in mine other than an odd comment about how it looks..... otherwise you could end up in the "oh god its aweful but i cant say no" situation my friend

this guy looks super cool! one of the better scratch built titans i've seen. keep up the great work!

The basic shape is right, but the detail needs work. It could do with ribs and improvements to the limbs, at present it looks a bit flat.
