good evening dakka,

I'm having a bit of trouble with my oil wash. I'm doing a pin wash over a gloss coat. when I first apply it, the wash flows on nice and smooth and looks black in all the crevices. perfect! however, as the wash starts to dry it seems to contract in on itself and clumps up. after a few minutes, I'm left with a grainy dotted line in my crevices instead of the nice, solid black line that I started with.

I made the wash by taking a small blob of winton oil color 25 lamp black paint (maybe 1/2 the size of a pea) and thinning it with a few drops of turpenoid in a small cup. I stirred the mix several times while in the process of applying the wash, so I don't think it separated in the cup. what am I doing wrong?

oils can dry a bit grainy sometimes. Just reapply it where needed.
