Humanity would die out because raw chaos would enter the galaxy.
End of the line.
Or Orks would loot the golden throne

What about the tyranids though because their attracted to the light of the astro-thingy the emperor produces. They might start systamatically wiping out all the other races and fighting chaos.

Humanity would be thrown into anarchy,
A massive warp portal in south america would re-open destroying and/or swallowing Terra,
warp travel would be impossible due to no astronomicon,
the sob would be declared renegade
and all humans would eventually die.

Well, you already told the answer of what that would mean.
They would fight chaos you say.
Fighting? Yay, blood for the bloodgod and so on..

If Chaos does consume the galacy after he dies than nothing would be able to stop them. Daemons would flood the galaxy and even if the Tyranids have near unlimited numbers, they'll just keep coming and dying, a endless supply of blood for Khorne! The Necrons would go insane and start smacking the Orrey, destroying everything tyranids and daemons but daemons would eventually respawn and come back.

Apart from the Necrons do have the power to seal the warp from real space.
He could equally be re-born and start a new crusade and a new age of enlightenment. No-one knows.

What, why? That's like saying "99% of all humans would be declared renegade" - because that's about the amount of followers of the Imperial faith.
Anyhow, as has been said before, the most immediate concern would be the Astronomican going dark, making warp travel not impossible but impractical. Entire systems would be isolated from one another, turning most of the Imperium into easy pickings by the various alien species and allowing sedition to spread. After a while people would notice that Imperial forces are cut off from their worlds, allowing local governors would be free to reign as they wish (even more than before), possibly influencing the Ecclesiarchy's local status - not to mention that the world would have to find a way to deal with their psykers on their own now.
On the long term, it could well be that the Emperor will be reborn in a new and healthy body - after all, this was some very influential people's fear right after His body was laid to rest in the Golden Throne.

I think he'd become a god.
He's got the majority of the human race believing he is/venerating him as a god and the power of faith is quite potent in 40K. Space Wolf talismans for example are supposed to work simply because the Wolves believe in them, if the majority of the human race believes the Big E is a god, then he could well be IMHO...

You think so? If they do it cleverly, I think some sort of "Great Crusade II" could make a nice backdrop for further miniature battles set in the 42nd millennium.
I will say that it would take away some of the Grimdark, though, which is a trademark feature of the setting. Instead I suppose it'd become more like Brighthammer 40k.

There has to be fluff of that somewhere. A daemon world where the nids constantly reconsume their lost biomass and Khorne constantly makes new daemons for the ones he loses since the blood shed is still a net gain. Automatically Appended Next Post: Lynata wrote:phantommaster wrote:GW would go bust.

I actually kind of like the setting of Brighthammer 40K. It isn't outright utopian, but it is certainly interesting.

To be honest it doesn't really matter what precisely would occur upon the Emperor's death. What's important to the setting is that the golden throne is failing, and that awful things will ensue when it finally does.

I think if he were to die firstly the Astronomicon would stay but not be as focused as I'm sure the Astropathic choir would still be there it just wouldn't have the Emperors will to direct it. It might flicker a bit though!
Secondly the Daemons behind the web way gate would flood through to Earth..... If they are even stil there?!
Thirdly, even if he did reincarnate (which took a year the first time round) he would still be born an infant and wouldn't be able to go crusading in his push chair.
Or he becomes a god and no fluff changes or he dies and doesn't come back and the imperium is stuck with warp beacons they used before. ( small jumps. Not as fast)

The Church would have a tough time explaining how a "God" could die. After all, there are no gods, just highly evolved beings that must be overcome and crushed.
|
Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
Humans would thrive in their new chaotic, mutated, bloodthirsty, kinky diseased form and wipe out all comers, the Engethel was right when he/she said Horus would either save or damn humanity. I also think he/she was right about the Emp being the anathema to human life, humans are fearful, lustful, angry, hopeful creatures and Emperor proved himself to be the anathema by trying to change that. The Emperor was like the eldar, thinking they could just outthink the laws of the universe and the warp, they like him were wrong, DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR.

I agree. He's dead, dead, dead.
The only thing powering the Astronomican is the life force of the sacrificial psykers; not the Emperor. The Throne itself turns their life energy into the beam. However, the Imperium would never admit this to the masses as they would have to explain how they are actually worshiping a well and truly dead god.
So the real question is: What would happen if the average imperial citizen found out that the Emperor was dead? Answer: anarchy.

If he actually dies he'll be reborn pretty much instantly, step off the throne in Super Saiyan Three Big E mode and start kicking some heads in.
I seem to recall some fluff somewhere with a group of people determining whether or not to let him die and the two groups were divided on the line of "If we let him die he'll probably be back and ready for round 2" and "We need, the people need a figurehead" it's fairly obvious who won that argument.

The warp would just open everywhere and unlimited daemons would kill everything and everyone then khorne, tzeentch and slaanesh would die (no blood for khorne, no ones fate for tzeentch etc.). And Nurgle would die once the entire universe rots and decays (so a little while after the rest of the gods).

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive. Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.
