Subject: Mordrakwing? Question on viability

So i was looking through my grey knight codex when an interesting idea hit me.
An army that is based around Mordrak, a full unit of paladins, and coteaz. Henchmen fill up the troop slots and are scoring units. Draigo is the standard choice, yes, but mordrak is 75 point cheaper, and would be a hard counter to flyerspam armies, as his unit can deepstrike next to the 1 or 2 units anchoring their army and destroy them, leading to a turn 1the victory. Another tactic could be that he deep strikes in, and next turn the independant characters could split off, assaulting 3 different vehicles with hammers. It would be more balanced than a draigowing, and the henchmen could allow for a very balanced list, with a hard striking unit at its core. Mordrak can take the hits, and any that he does fail could potentially give you another body to take hits. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts on its downsides?

I love Mordrak, but right now he is much easier to pick out and kill than he used to be. As soon as he goes you lose the whole unit of ghost knights.
I have not tried adding more than one character to his unit though, so maybe there is something to that.

I thought of that, but having him with a unit of paladins would solve that pretty easily, as any could take a challege (e.g. staff guy). He still gets ghost knights, they would be added to the paladins, just extra wounds/attacks. The deep strike 1st turn is great for 25 points more than a grand master.

He is not a IC so you can not put him in a unit of Paladins

He wouldn't be able to kill enough for a turn one victory anyway, he'd need the whole army over with him, which wouldn't happen.

Actually Mordrak is a little nicer with Marine forces that use Drop Pods as one has to come in on turn 1. You can place Mordrak an his knights side by side with a nice kitted out unit, I ran a Logan Drop Pod full of Multi Melta Long Fangs.
