Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

I just saw the Halo 4 Stage Demo, and I have a few questions...

1) Was John really fighting the Forerunners?
2) If so, why? Aren't Humans supposed to be the Reclaimers and therefore their chosen successors?
3) Cortana's supposed to be rampant, so why is she still blue?
4) Was the guy who transported away after helping John the Didact?
5) And why are the Elites hostile? Are the Arbiter and the other Seperatists dead?

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

Bigger question would be why still have John and not some new replacement. Can be Halo without him and it would have given a nice end to his story.

For the Elites though, they aren't a hive mind.

A valid opinion, but that still leaves my questions unanswered.

The Arbiter is technically in charge of them since the Covenant fell apart, and he has committed himself to restoring the Covenant's honor - attacking the Humans is not something he would do or allow.

Well I figured I'd avoid ones that would be more or less guessing/opinion.

By the looks of it and how they mentioned Forerunner technology and also how they weren't organic, those enemies could have just been Forerunner drones set to protect that place. The part at the end where he mentions waiting a long time could be an actual one or another construct like a more advanced oracle. Before that I wasn't even sure how long the AIs lasted. No idea as to which colour they become after they start to degrade. Could it be red?

Which wouldn't stop splinter factions one bit. They gave the impression of holding honour highly; I don't doubt some may have questioned the alliance for that reason. The more out of the way answer could be some crazy mind control crap.

Cortana should be red...her systems are supposed to project a different color for her avatar when she goes rampant...unless she actually falls in love with John and goes meta-stable...

*Ahem* Right...those guys John fought were Prometheans...the Forerunner equivalent of Spartans. They weren't drones, since Didact himself was a Promethean. And the last part was a Cryptum, kinda like a stasis cell.

The Elites have split into several factions but largely it's pro-attacking humans and pro-peace treaty.
Neither side is overly fond of humans.
The Elites have also lost all of their production capacity (They had relied on the Engineers for that which are now lost to them)
A united Elite species is in fact a threat to humanity which is why the events detailed in Glasslands happens...
Cortana could have gone meta-stable in which case she will stay sane.

Not entirely sure on whether they are Prometheans or not. I haven't seen anything claiming they are but it is a possibility they are still alive somewhere.
Humans were the favourites of the Librarian, she made sure they lived and was probably to reason they were designated the reclaimers...

I have a theory that whatever ancient evil is lurking out there is trapping Didact in his Cryptum, and the one who helped John was the Librarian. I mean, just because she was a scientist doesn't mean she couldn't fight (and she might be alive - a duplicate of 343 Guilty Spark said as much in one of the Halo novels, though for the life of me I can't remember which one), seeing as a female, Ancient Human scientist led the last stand ground battle on Charrum Hakkor while the Lord of Admirals led the last stand in space.

I believe it was the second Forerunner novel that implied she yet lived...
I don't think the Didact is trapped, it's entirely likely he just hasn't woken up yet...
Saying that, everything we've seen could just be constructs...

True...Precursors, maybe? And the Didact would awaken when the Librarian's 'children' (it's kinda apt, seeing as in Halo fluff, the post-war Ancient Humans saw her as a Mother Goddess) - Humans - arrived on his Shield World?

The Timeless One - supposedly the last Precursor according to the Forerunners and the Ancient Humans. But then again...the Flood was supposed to have been destroyed by the Halo Array completely. Turns out they survived on the Array and in certain other Forerunner facilities...who knows? Let's not forget those guys were Tier 0, far surpassing either the Forerunners and the Ancient Humans, who were both Tier 1. The Timeless One's plans and answers(which we were never informed) effectively demoralized the Ancient Human leadership (with the exception of the ruthless Lord of Admirals, who was willing to use the Flood as proxy warriors), so its possible they're still alive out there and 'testing' the Humans - who were supposed to inherit the Mantle as opposed to the Forerunners.

The Forerunners were tested which is what led to the Halo's being fired...
Apparently humans are the next up for being tested for the mantle and in their current state it may be a bit of a slaughter...

Not necessarily...as the Reclaimers, Humans should be able to access the Halo Array. In the worst case, that is. And if the Librarian is alive, the Library (which is basically a genetic repository for every sentient species at the time of the Forerunners, including the Humans) should also be intact. They can use that to rebuild much more quickly. Or like we always do, we win by the skin of our teeth.

I'd say that even the UNSC wouldn't consider mass cloning as away to rebuild but considering what they've done they probably would...

I imagine Forerunner cloning technology would be more advanced than UNSC flash-cloning/'regular' cloning.

Ethics? Considering SPARTANS were originally kidnapped children, I'd say the UNSC is pretty much consequentialist when it comes to ethics.

Ohh, just noticed this thread...

1) A form of promethian, the Forerunner warrior Caste

2) I presume automated scurity, lack of protocol or something similar, it'll be explained in game

3) most AIs become rampant after 7 years, not all. some can surpass that, like the one that controlled the rubble in Cole Protocol. Also, cortana has access to all the data she downloaded in Halo: CE form the control room, so she might of found something on rampancy in there.

4) you mean the guy who killed the Elite? unknown

5)

Spoiler:
they're a splinter faction called "The Storm" they still belive in the prophets teachings and are on Requium looking for a weapon

Ethics? Considering SPARTANS were originally kidnapped children, I'd say the UNSC is pretty much consequentialist when it comes to ethics.

Yeah but even for them...
Cloning billions of people is not exactly an endeavour to be taken lightly...

True...but if they're desperate enough to use the Halos, then mass cloning shouldn't be too bad. Or, just clone enough to form a viable population and work on it from there.

I don't think even they would trigger the halos...
Not until it's the only option anyway...
That said someone in ONI would be trying to get people to do it from the get go i imagine...

They definitely stop the UNSC from even approaching the realms of the good guys but they are to a man all utter arseholes...
In their defense they did what needed to be done and ONI Prowlers are cool...

Tadashi wrote:I just saw the Halo 4 Stage Demo, and I have a few questions...

This all opinions based on what I've read (every single book and comic ) and I'm posting this at work off the top of my head.

1) Not forerunners themselves, most likely some form of construct left behind by them. Forerunners are Biological beings.
2) Go replay Halo 1, Sentinels and Guilty Spark are also Forerunner made (though Guilty Spark's complete background is a bit... crazy)
3) Dunno
4) Probably not, the Didact is a biological humanoid being. The sphere hasn't been mentioned in any book so far.
5) You only killed one group of seperatists in Halo 2. With Faction as large as the covenant there are bound to be dozens. Hell, even during the Covenant-human war there were still human rebels around too.
