Awesome painting, papa nurgle will be most pleased, you may "suck at skin and high contrast" but i don't believe that that is evident here.

Very nice. I like the look of the model, the high spikes on the shoulder versus the big ass axe on his right. The only thing i don't really dig are the paint drips on the base.

PS; the ice spikes are great touches. How did you do those? (glue?)

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Wow. As someone who picked up this miniature the other day, this is truly inspirational.

Great work. The base is very well done and brings a great deal to the model. I tend to phone my bases in, so i am always impressed with the bases that go the distance. Great color choices as well. Cheers.

Thanks very much guys -

@spincr - the icicles are made from stretched hot-glue dragged across some plasticard. Then after it dries, I cut out sections that look icicle-y.

I learned to do this type of base from Ben Komets Miniature Mentor tutorials btw guys if you want to learn how too... they are excellent, excellent vids, very useful. I have embellished a bit since my first attempts on my Contemptor, painting dirt purely with Secret Weapon pigments (great quality). I almost feel bad putting all the snow on, the top was actually quite sexy as dry dirt and wet blended rocks too lol... but I wanted to do another snow base, looking like it was the first snow in fall, a few leaves still on the tree, a lot of it melting, small icicles.

Thanks very much for looking, and it was not mentioned here, this piece is the result of a private lesson with Matt Fontaine, who teaches master classes around the world pretty regularly. I highly recommend visiting his site, and keeping an eye out for anything he puts out, he is a great teacher. As mentioned, Ben Komets is another great, and Massive Voodoo and Miniature Mentor also great resources.

I think the dirt part of the base is just a little too high for my liking, but other than that, wow. Really like it, good job.

That was a joke, right?

Absolutely fantastic work. The axe in particular stands out, but the entire model is just...awesome.

Another fine example of this model- makes me want to get one now!
Not too sure on the big block base thing it's on though, but as a display piece I suppose it works.
I really like the weathering on the metals.

That is truly a disgusting looking paint job. I love it, one of the best painted Nurgle miniatures I've ever seen.

Nope, I sucked at skin and high contrast lol - now I will put modesty aside for a second and at least admit that ok, maybe my skin and contrast was better than average before, so suck is relative, but it certainly wasn't where I wanted it to be and also was something I always had trouble with. I have been painting mostly marines for a very, very long time, so besides the occasional head or whatnot there wasn't a whole lot of need to practice skin lol. That, and breaking away from a more heavy metal style to try and emulate the CMON top guys was another big goal. I still have a long way to go, but setting challenges and trying to get better is the only way to go if you ask me!

I appreciate the comments very much btw, and I am proud of the model! Just want to clarify that at the same time I was serious with the 'suck' comment lol -

If it wasn't a display piece for sure would never base it that way! However, it is only pushed into the base with pins, so on the very off chance I were ever to sell it, or even more remote than that start a nurgle force of some kind, it would be easy to make it transferable to a regular square or round. I like to be prepared
