So for my local GW's birthday, there were 2 events. The stores literal birthday was in June, so we
had an all day event for that which included voting on the display boards for Armies on Parade.
For this event there was a speed painting contest, which I didn't know about until I showed up.
So, using only store supplies I painted up a marine as best I could(community brushes are terrible
and quite frayed). We had 30 minutes to paint a marine that was primed black.
So using only GW paints and terribad brushes this is the model I ended up with, which sadly won.
I'm not at all proud of this one, but I had to make due with the tools at hand.

So in July, GW headquarters determined to have the official birthday, which meant another speed
painting event and judging for Armies on Parade finals. This time I brought my own brushes and
all my own paints. I even let others use my paints as I had many colors that weren't available in the
store for whatever reason(oop, already in use, different brand etc.). I used 2 brushes for this one:
A Rosemary & Co. Series 22 size 1 and a Series 33 size 2/0. This time I used my home made
soft body black wash which uses ultra matte medium instead of regular. The other colors are:
Mordian Blue, Enchanted Blue, Mephiston Red, Boltgun Metal, Reaper Pure Black, and Vallejo
Model Colour Bronze.
This one I'd say is tabletop standard. Basing was not part of the event, so please excuse that.

Critiques always welcome, just bear in mind the time I had available I know the pics could be better, but this is as good as they were getting with the light I have here at my desk without rearranging everything.

really? 35 views and not a single comment?

Give it to me straight! Tell me it's utter gak if you think so. I'm a big boy, I can take it.

Tell you what, Rule #1 doesn't matter here in this thread. I'm not going to be offended, provided that the insults are directed at the models and not me personally. Be rude, be polite, just talk!!!

I need validation on the interwebz. It's all I have left these days.

for a 30 minute job, I'd say those are both more than fair. they've got shadows and highlights and use more than 3 colors. aside from some cleanup (blue paint on gold areas, wash too heavy in some spots), I really don't have much to offer critique-wise. it's not really fair to hold a speed-painted mini up to a high standard of excellence.

I will say that I prefer the darker blue from the first model over the second, even though the overall paint job on the second is cleaner.
