Hey all, I'm wondering where I can purchase, or where I can find a tutorial to make something that looks like the beam of a laser. I've looked at coloured transparent acrylic rods but I've found nowhere that will sell them in small lengths of multiple colours. Only 20 foot sections of a single colour.
I'm looking to model of of these http://www.sears.com/search=Creative%20Motion%2080211%206%20Rotating%20Disco%20Ball%20Light?storeId=10153&yikes_prod=1687977330&catalogId=12605&autoRedirect=false&intShip=3&intlDelivery=3 if it makes it any more clear.
Please and thanks ahead of time.

I used a straight length of pinning wire for the laser here, but then its also structural

depending on the size of your model disco ball, have you considered actually putting an LED inside it? Its pretty easy to do and of you get a bright white LED you could easily put colour filters on there with washes or suchlike.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Have you ever tried the sprue stretching technique? It's one of the best ways to get a very thin line between two points and due to the plastic memory reaction to heat there's no measurement involved - it just pulls tight!
All you need is a little spare sprue, a candle and an incense stick; I was amazed when learning the technique for rigging battleships.

EDIT: actually it might take a little trial and error to get it to look like the gun is shooting straight, but it's not a very messy method.

check out Amazon, I went on Google and typed in clear plastic rods, and Amazon popped up. They seem to have quite a few different selections to pick from.

I am pretty sure I've seen a tutorial or some pictures either on Dakka or google with people doing this technique you are talking about. I'll look and see if I can find it again for you.
