So I noticed that alot of the names of chapters are of earth animals E.G. Celestial Lions, SPace Wolfs, Mantis Warriors and dozen More.
But all evidence is that most of those are dead from earth atleast(except horses)
So are there any chapter names of animals that are not natice to earth?
Like the "Iron Grox" or something like that?
Actually, all the Catachan regiments are Alpharius

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."
Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan
For the same reason TAU vehicles are named after extinct terran aquatic life. They are code-names and HUMAN references.
You usually give your adversaries stupid sounding names.
Russian Aircraft got stupid names - which often started with the same letter as their type - Fighters had "f" names (like "fishbed" and "fulcrum" and "foxbat", helicopters had "h" names (everybody knows about the "Hind", "Havoc" and "hip").
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
And for the enemy vehicle naming creativity award let's give it to NATO's Allied Submarine Command, with creative names like "Oscar" "Tango" "Papa" etc... because creativity's hard and the phonetic alphabet is like right there man!
Hotsauce you totally need to make up the Iron Grox chapter of Sphess Mehreens.
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long
It's meant to be catchy to the audience mainly. Eldar have also have names involving scorpions, hawks, and mythical creatures like the phoenix. Things Eldar civilization really should have had no contact with.
Though I suppose you could say that at the first problem (Celestial Lions and so on) that such animals still have a mythical status and would be similar to dragons, unicorns, and what not in our time. For the Eldar thing, the Old Ones sired similar creatures across their children races, and Eldar indeed had scorpions/hawks/what have you.

Guess you would hate to hear that there's talk of a third movie in the series...
Anyways, I believe the focus of naming Chapters after ancient creatures that only now exist in myth is that they recall the glories of ancient Terra. There are cases of Marines using animals native to their homeworlds in iconography (and somewhat in name) though. Just look at the Salamanders. Their badge is a dragon head and is a reference to the great beasts that prowl Nocturne. There's also the Night Lords that use the skull of the Nostroman Craig Cat in their iconography.
