This came up upon me suddenly:
1) wings are decorative, so cannot be targeted, and no need to find cover for them.
2) wings are part of model that is not base decoration so provide cover for other models
3) PROFIT?

Wings are ignored for drawing LOS TO the model, they are not ignored for LOS in general.

And then wings are only ignored for drawing LOS TO the model if it is not a vehicle.
Vehicle Wings are Hull and you can draw LoS to any part of the Hull for vehicles.

This was a somewhat debated topic in 5th, however the 6th edition BRB ( BGB? BBB?) is very clear on page 73 - "Note that, unlike for other models, a vehicles wings are not ornamental and are a part of its hull."
Alas, no profit.

Say Bloodthyrster with wings modeled spread to it's side gives cover to whole bunch of model to his left and right.

So you are saying I could create a MC with a wing span the width of the table and have mobile cover! WIN!

Probably, but just like someone modelling a Hive Tyrant to be crawling on its belly - you'll put a lot of work into someone only to be labelled as TFG and blacklisted for games... Gross Profit, Net Loss :(

Page 8 of the BRB, 1st and 2nd paragraph on the right:
For one model to have LOS to another, you must be able to trace a straight, unblocked line from its eyes to any part of the targets body (the head, torso, arms, or legs.
..."Similarily, we ignore wings and tails, and antennae even though they are technically part of the model's body."

So you can't draw LOS to a wing, does that imply its ignored for the purposes of determining whether the MC is in cover?

Right, i'm trying to get to the OP's original question about whether you should include the wings when determining whether the model is 25% covered

You can't draw LOS to them.
You are trying to figure out if 25% of a model is blocked based on LOS.
Hmmm...
(no, you don't include wings when determining LOS)
