Why on earth do Space Wolves Drop Pods have a ten-model capacity and Vanilla Marines (and, I assume, BA) have a 12-model limit?

Veteran Sergeant wrote:If 40K has Future Rifles, and Future Tanks, and Future Artillery, and Future Airplanes and Future Grenades and Future Bombs, then contextually Future Swords seem somewhat questionable to use, since it means crossing Future Open Space to get Future Shot At.

Pick your answer:

1) So you can't have 2 specials and a wolf guard PL in a GH pack and a drop pod.

2) SW drop pods use the antiquated Mark IV drop pod design which sacrificed space for additional heat shielding and a small set of boosters to make landings harder and faster. Vanilla marines often use the Mark V or Mark VI drop pods which use lighter materials in order to afford more room inside the pod. Largely, this makes the pods the same except for the slight difference in tranport capacity.

3) Because Phill Kelly said so.

Vanilla Smace Marines are the only army that has a capacity of 12 on their drop pods. No other chapter is mean enough to force the two youngest squad members to drop without restraint harness.

Howzibout the real reason.

Matt Ward screwed up. Matt made Drop Pods and the basic landraider hold 12 guys when he wrote the C:SM codex to allow for full squads of 10 guys + special characters. However, he even admitted, that he got chewed out for it by the higher ups. Those vehicles never should have held more than 10 guys.

So all drop pods and basic landraiders after that got bumped back down to 10 guys as they should be. Just think of it as an accidental perk for playing C:SM codex.

I like the idea of Space Wolves dropping into battle with a keg of ale strapped into both spare seats. Or they replaced them with pet carriers for the wolves.

What's with the whining puppies? Both here and YMDC has threads with SW players complaining about vanilla marine toys. Its like trust-fund kids complaining that they never had the fun of manual labor in high school.

Atta boy! My SW are for when I feel like kicking a puppy or beating someone down. My vanillas are for when I'm collected enough to want to out think someone. Tau are for humility, and Orks are to relax.

I cannot believe what I'm going to say... I think Ward was right. It is bloody annoying that you cannot fit joined ICs in to the transports.

Also, of the all the things Ward has done, this was what he got chewed out for. Really?

Rule of cool says TWC in drop pods would be awesome, men riding giant death wolves rocketing in from orbit and exploding on to the foe form their metal death eggs.

IIRC you used to be able to fit them in a standard land raider by taking a 4 man terminator command squad+IC, but BT are the only army still with termie command squads I think

I found two refrences in 5 minutes with a google search. I'm sure a longer search would get more results.

But I'm don't feel the need. Seriously, ask yourself, how come the three SM based codexs that have been released (two of which by Ward) since C:SM don't have 12 man drop pods or Landraiders? I think its a little obvious where the mistake was made.
