I honestly wish Rhinos held 11 guys. having to sacrifice weapon options to toss a captain in (especially at low points when having his own ride is expensive) is quite annoying. I dont know why I painted 20 tac marines, I never use two 10 man squads.

I found two refrences in 5 minutes with a google search. I'm sure a longer search would get more results.

But I'm don't feel the need. Seriously, ask yourself, how come the three SM based codexs that have been released (two of which by Ward) since C:SM don't have 12 man drop pods or Landraiders? I think its a little obvious where the mistake was made.

...or the codex that needs 10 men in a squad to get toys might need something different the magpie toy hording puppy dogs?!

As that would be the actual reason instead of the silly, 'mistake' BS, +1.

Keep blaming all the problems in the world on Ward. Don't let any pesky facts get in the way...

Real answer?

Mat Ward changed it the capacity for Land Raiders and Drop Pods in C:SM from 10 to 12 after years and years of it being 10, IP didn't check it until it was too late. He was told not to do it again by his own admission at GDUK 2009, and they changed it back for all following Space Marine books. They had the opportunity to expand it to all other SM chapters with C:SW, C:BA, and C:GK as well as the FAQ/Errata documents for Dark Angels and Black Templars when they changed how PotMS, Drop Pod Assault and Stormshields work, but they didn't.

Expect it to be returned to 10 whenever C:SM 6th edition comes out.

Hopefully along with Special weapons being unlocked at 5 guys. Needing to buy 10 to get ANY weapon upgrades is just bull.

There are lots of stuff that is probably cheaper in points than it should be across almost all codexs, however, to be on topic, the Drop Pod is not one of them.

Ok then, that solves a lot. One less Wolf Guard in the squad then, so mr. Wolf Lord can ride in with them. Thanks for the swift answers.

The real reason: GW has no internal consistency or review of its Codex books until after they print. The authors apparently work in a vacuum as different vehicles have different capacities like here, or similar units have weapons that cost differently. A consistent vision would mean that the different marine chapter books would be the same at the baseline, but then add some chapter specific stuff, but instead things change wildly with respect to cost and your get Long Fangs compared to Devastators. That is really the primary thing I dislike about there being so many space marine chapter books. They clearly highlight how little internal QA and control GW really have over the process. If I were in charge of their QA I'd be making sure the books were all internally consistent, but they currently just don't seem to care (Yes QA and Testing is my area of expertise primarily with software these days, but the most of the prinicples are the same).

Not sure that I buy the Ward screwed up excuse/reason, as it sounds like a "friend of my cousin's neighbor went to GDUK and he said..." kind of thing. It might very well be true, though.

That's why Pretre was asking for a source, not a link to posts that have the same kind of vibe. I'd also like a quote from somewhere.

Regardless, we'll know for sure when the next Space Marine codex hits and they either change it to 10 (my bet) or they leave it at 12.

If I could by my wargear as cheap as space wolves, or take assault marines like BA can, have 5 tank hunting terminators as BT do, or have terminator troops and cheap landspeeders like DA have...

I wouldn't give a damn about two less space in an landraider or a drop pod. But vanilla marines don't have these things. And still only the SW's are complaining.

I have seen very little Complaining from my Fellow Space Wolf Players. I, for one am glad that we don’t have the extra 2 spaces or all we would be hearing the cries of Cheese as my Grey Hunter Packs lead by Terminator Wolf Guard with Combi-Meltas and Chain Fist; Pods next to your Land Raider.

Again....

I'm not complaining. Space wolves should have to make that *hard* decision - add a wolf guard or take two special weapons. Wow. I could take awesome .... or ... I could take awesome!

EDIT : Actually it seems to me that it's Space Wolves noobs who are "whining" - as you put it. Probably because of all of the non-SW players have been whining about how good SW's are and now the noobs are like, "I'm going to get some space wolves - they're awesome!" And then they get the codex and start complaining that SW's are not as awesome as they thought....and that complaining leaves me in somewhat in awe. Some of that awe is awesome.

I've never complained about the lack of 2 spots in my dropods, really taking a full 10 man squad for the weapons options has never hindered my GH, just in my last game 1 squad killed 2 landspeeders with a pair of rapid firing plasmaguns.

WG are a nice upgrade but not a vital one by any means.

Wait.... Space wolves get drop pods??? Wtf??? That's horri-bad cheesy! Yeesh. How can space wolves have drop pods??? Broooooooooo-ken!

Seriously though. The codec is what it is, and complaints or
Whine about it will not change anything. (except increas your budget spent on throat remedies)

The wolves get lots of other stuff vanilla maimed don't get, or BA, or GK etc. - like TWC, long fangs.... And so forth.

Easy, space wolves have wolfpods and blood angels have bloodpods. these are totally different from regular drop pods since they clearly have different names.
