Is it possible to mount the 4 heavy bolters on the front, or on two sides, so that they may all fire in the same direction?
The rules for bastions say that heavy bolters are "typically one on each facing".
That seems to imply that not all bastions have one on each facing, and some have other configurations.

Really looking for a reason to buy one instead of the Aegis Defense line that everyone else is running.

Most people will expect you to use the official model or something in the same shape. They'll force you to play by the default rules for the bastion, or not use it.

The typically there is to cover people that are trying to play narrative games.

Yeah, you can make your own 'counts-as' bastion. Although I guess you might run into some people who would consider it modelling for advantage.
