My finished Stormtalon gunship, lascannons.

my highlights are kinda patchy at the moment, i either need practice or a different technique.

Just for interest have done, like i do with all my models, panels of regal blue, which personally i really like.

But yeah, here you go! (:

I like the crisp blue a lot. I like the "codex" approach with a techmarine at the stick. I like the simple base A LOT, chaging from all those movable cliffs and wrecks that some have.

2 points though :
- I'd advise to put a very thin coat of matt varnish (the new GW works well) to mattify the decals.
- In a very codex approach, seeing a dark angel sign is a bit strange.

Nive job overall !

Thanks a lot man! i've always prefered doing simplistic grass/gravel bases, and i'm not sure what a codex approach is, haven't been doing this for long!

oh great thanks for the advice about the varnish, is that a spray or a paint, and will that change the shiny quality of the decals?

I like the blues you have got going on, very nice.

Unfortunately it appears as though the top of the tail has been glued on backwards. The rudder fins should be at the back of the model, and not at the leading edge. If you take a look at the bottom of the tail you can see the rudder you have painted a darker blue facing the back of the model correctly. The rudders on the top of the model which are also dark blue should be at the back as well.

Don't worry about the tail being that way round, I did mine that way and I also put the wings facing the other way too. I think it looks better like you have it. Nice job.

Looks solid mate, nice job.

About the wings thing, its just the same with the storm raven. They look better the wrong way round!

Like Seb said though, you've got the Ultramarine chapter symbol on the tail, but the decal on the wings is actually the Dark Angel chapter symbol. Think your birdy has an identity crisis

Ha yes indeed i did mean to put it round that way, always prefered the way it looks like that

ah yes very true, i've just always liked those decals, i'm not masssively bothered about it being from the wrong chapter, would it be a problem if i entered a official game or anything?

For the decal issue, grab yourself a bottle of MircoSet and MicroSol. They run about US $3 each and they will last you forever. There are plenty of tutorials on Dakka and on the Internet on how to apply waterslide decals. It pretty much boils down to:
Gloss varnish the area of the decal, apply MicroSet to the area, apply the decal, put some more MicroSet on the decal, let it dry then add a coat of MicroSol (repeat if needed), after that dries and you are happy, protect the decal with gloss varnish. You may then varnish the model as usual.

I think the paint job is nice and crisp, as well as smooth (if you did it with a brush, kudos to you!). You should add some weathering to it, at the very least some blackening around the engine vents. The techmarine pilot looks good as well, most people don't paint him as a techmarine (even though he should be!). But I agree with the other posters, I don't like the DA decals on the wings either. They look out of place.

There wont be a problem with the decals in a game, I think a GW rule is you can paint your stuff however you like so you could have pink ultramarines if you really wanted, people will probably ask you why you have the dark angels chapter symbol on an ultramarine storm talon but it wont be any issue due to rules, only thing you may suffer with it is if you entered a paining competition, not too sure as it technically is not painting so, but yeah should be no problems game wise, overall you paid for it you can paint/build it however you want to and anyone that complains is just an unpleasant person.

You can use a brush tu put it just on the decal and remove the glossy effect.
(Also work as a can : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470015a&prodId=prod1620041)

Codex approach meaning tha you respect the Codex rules !
(i.e. Straight up arrows on the left shoulders of your tactical marines - as stated in the codex)

NIce work. I really like the backward tail-fin (I do that as well!). Like the base too!

An airbrush is the easiest way to achieve a smooth coat on a large surface.
