I am thinking about dropping the assault squad and taking a rhino for a tactical squad and a drop-pod for my dreadnaught, is this a good idea?

Venerable dread aren't with the points for the upgrade. And if you do take it, the TL weapon options are a little redundant with the BS5. If you want him for long range fire support, I'd go with a regular one with the TLLC and a ML. If you are going to drop pod him, I'd go with melta/flamer, or replace with an ironclad.

Your captain is generic with no squad to hang with. I'd replace him with a chaplain for the jump squad, or give him terminator armor and join those guys. If you want to keep him as is, get him a command squad in a razorback.

Your tac squads need rhinos. The game is still very much objective based, and you don't have a good way to go out and claim them.

I don't like homers on static squads. Put them on aggressively advanced CC scouts, or scout bikes. Not on the snipers camping the back field objective.

I like 10 man dev squads. It's a risk/reward thing. As long as you don't take fire, you will be fine. But once a 5 man squad starts taking wounds, it's combat potential drops drastically. Plus the bolters are useful occasionally. The LC/ML is not a bad mix.

I like auto/las preds. The TLLC is a lot of points for a marginal upgrade IMHO. That being said, I wish I had it in the game I played last night, so YMMV.

If you want to drop the assault marines for points, that fine. You might consider shaving points by dropping one terminator from the squad, ditching the plasma pistol, going back to the auto cannon on the pred, and replacing the Ven dread with a normal one. This will only cost you a little effectiveness, but free up a large chunk of points to invest in other things.

You pretty much have to get rid of the Scout Squad. Even if your opponent is allowing you to go a couple points over; going almost 100 points over is pretty rough, and normally point leniency is to allow an upgrade that just couldn't be squeezed in. A full extra squad is pretty nuts; unless you're a new player and the opponent is allowing it.

I have not had much success with assault squads unless you run it as a 10 man squad. Then it starts getting expensive too. An easy way to drop points is move the lascannons from the dev squad to the tactical squads. It saves 10 Points per LC and gives your devs more symmetry and they are better equiped to deal with hoards. Then you can either have the LC in a combat squad to provide covering fire. The AP2 also matches the plasma & chances are you won't miss the frag missile in a tac squad.

I also agree that the TL LC on the predators is slightly overpriced. Over twice as much as giving 2 LC to your tac squads.
