So, I've been working on a Space Wolves army list mostly out of stubbornness at this point. I'm determined to get it working. I'd like some advice, and not just from Space Wolves players.

My problem in 6th edition: If you are doing a full reserve list you can't use suicide units. Its too risky. The opponent has likely only 3 or 4 AV12 3 Hull Point Open Topped vehicles and 3-4 units to deal with. If they can wipe that on Turn 1 the game is over. So you need some things that can linger.

Second problem, you need firepower down on that first turn if you don't just setup Long Fangs. This means Dreadnoughts are my only real option I believe. Since I'll have to buy a couple I'll end up magnetizing, but I'm curious what loadouts people would recommend. Just stock with a Multi-Melta? Or an Assault Cannon? Heavy Flamer will be on regardless.

Right now I'm kind of wishing I was playing vanilla space marines. Ironclads are attractive, but I get nothing like that as a Space Wolves player.

Why am I not setting up Long Fangs? Well the point to the list is to do a null deployment. There are quite a lot of advantages to this. For example, consider Flyers have to move a minimum of 18" onto the table. It's pretty easy to screw up enemy flyers or ignore them outright by dropping in the enemy backline. I also prefer to go second to better deal with enemy flyers with my own flyer, and 18 models on the table are easy to wipe off (especially for Dark Eldar) before I'd get a chance to fire them.

So, in 6th edition, what would you recommend for a Turn 1 drop? It has to be able to punch something and have a chance of surviving for one turn when it comes down. Is it a pipe dream? How many Drop Pods do you think you need?
