Hi folks,

I'd be grateful if you could offer some advice with respect to LBursley's Video Tutorial on Dark Angels.
Obviously I'm looking for some advice from someone who's tried it!

Firstly, here are his results.

You'll notice the nice rich Green Power Armour that I'm striving for.
I did as per his tutorial i.e. on a white undercoat, basecoat of Cayman (Catachan) Green, Badab Black Wash, Cayman + Dark Green layer, Sick (Snot) Green highlight.
Now I know my highlighting isn't perfect but this is a test mini after all.

You'll notice form my results that my mini looks more like an army green. Did anyone else end up with this result? I'd appreciate any view points.
From the picture above it looks like he may have glazed the mini? There's no mention of that in the tutorial unless I missed it?

Any advice appreciated Dakka - I have PM'd LBursley himself but I'm sure he receives numerous PM's a day so he might just not have time for them!

With no Highlight.

With a Sick (Snot) Green Edge Highlight.

What kind of light are you using in these shots? Les would be using a white fluro or very bright daylight bulb, and it will make quite a difference to the finished colour in the shots.

Yes I apologise for the photography, it's just in my kitchen. So I guess it's a fairly standard halogen type bulb. I appreciate Les will have a far more professional set up!

But my question remains - are these too 'army' green for Dark Angels?

What I meant is that if you used the exact colours he stated in the tut, you will have practically the same finish. The slight difference in colour between yours and his could easily just be lighting or colour cast, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Your's looks fine and very close to his, I guess you could give it another very light badab/thraka mix wash to shade it down very slightly and deepen the green, if thats what you are after.

I swear that LB used some black wash at some point in the tutorial. Too lazy to look through it again, but it's something you could try. Just a light black wash over the recesses to get a slightly darker green.

Hi guys thanks for the replies.

I thought about a glaze too Ifalna, have you tried the new citadel waywatcher green glaze? Is it ok to use straight out the pot or should it be thinned?

@Ronin, the black wash is used right after the base coat of catachan green. I could maybe have used a bit more...
